When it was confirmed that LeBron James would not sign a new contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, a number of clubs lined up to sign the hottest free agent in the market. However, the biggest surprise was the Golden State Warriors.

The rivalry between James and the Warriors dates back to the 2010s. It was the biggest rivalry in the NBA as they clashed in every NBA Final from 2015 to 2018. His most important championship came in 2016 when he led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first-ever title after pulling off a historic 3-1 comeback.

While everyone waits for his decision on his next club, he has been linked to multiple clubs. ESPN confused NBA fans by possibly leaking where he will play next. In the latest episode of Pardon The Interruption, the title caught everyone’s eyes. It read:

Steph Curry Behind LeBron’s Stunning Warriors Decision? Kawhi is Back…?

The title quickly went viral, as many believed ESPN may have accidentally leaked his future club. It may have been an error on their part, as they discussed the Kawhi Leonard part but nothing about LeBron James and his move to the Warriors.

When it was confirmed that the Warriors were interested in signing James, it was a shock for several fans across the NBA world. While some believed that adding an aging star was not a good move in a highly competitive Western Conference, some were hyped to see James play alongside Stephen Curry.

With James enjoying his offseason, he is in no hurry to make a decision. He spent some time with Draymond Green last week, and the Warriors star revealed that he did throw a Warriors pitch at James. Meanwhile, even Curry has been open to playing with the King in Golden State.

Steve Kerr tells a fan that the Warriors have signed LeBron James

Steve Kerr joined the Warriors as a head coach in 2014. He has been the most successful coach in the franchise’s history. Under him, they created one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. He led them to four championships in six NBA Finals.

Recently, Kerr sent NBA fans into a frenzy after jokingly telling a Warriors supporter that the franchise had already secured James. The head coach stopped his car by a group of fans. One supporter quickly kicked off the conversation.

Hey, we need to get LeBron, man.

Without much hesitation, Kerr responded:

LeBron? Oh, we got him.

Many believed that the 2025-26 campaign would be Kerr’s final season with the Warriors after his contract ended. But he agreed to a two-year contract to stay with the franchise. His response to the fan has fueled speculation about the Warriors heading into next season.

The Warriors are not championship contenders with LeBron James

The core trio of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler has all turned 35. They are coming off a disappointing 2025-26 campaign, in which they finished 10th in the Western Conference standings and failed to make the playoffs.

American sportswriter for ESPN Tim MacMahon believes that the Warriors’ fortunes will not change even if they add James.

The Warriors are not a 42-year-old away from being a contender. It would be a great story. They would be fun. It would not be a legitimate contender.

Tim MacMahon on NBA Today

While James impressed many with his performances last season, especially during the playoffs, it is a lot to expect from a 41-year-old to turn them into championship contenders instantly. However, James has always thrived with shooters around him, and the Warriors have the greatest shooter of all time in Curry with them.
