It has been a while since Anthony Davis was mentioned alongside the big names in the NBA. Since being drafted into the league by the New Orleans Pelicans as the number one pick in the 2012 NBA draft, Davis has been a force to reckon with.
He was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 2019 after seven seasons with the Pelicans. Alongside LeBron James, they formed one of the most dangerous duos in the league as they lifted the championship in their first season together in 2020.
While they did not make it to the NBA Finals again, Davis was shockingly traded to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic in a blockbuster move at the trade deadline last year. After a difficult year in Dallas, Davis was traded once again this year as he found a new home with the Washington Wizards.
Davis gained attention recently when he shared a cryptic post on Instagram. He shared a clip from J. Cole’s song, “The Cut Off. The lyrics on the screen read:
Time will tell who is on my side.

Davis went through a difficult period as injuries riddled him during his time with the Mavs. He made just 20 appearances in the 2025-26 campaign till he got traded to the Wizards at the trade deadline. He is yet to make an appearance for his new club.
It is unknown if there is some hidden meaning to his cryptic post. It is possible that Davis likes the song, or he is just fueling the rumors of him linking up with James once again.
Yahoo Sports writer Kevin O’Connor came up with a “theory” that James has not decided on his future as he is waiting to see if any one of his top teams go for Davis or Kyrie Irving. However, NBA insider Shams Charania dismissed the “popular theory”.
Washington Wizards are not interested in trading Anthony Davis
The Wizards have some ambitious plans after acquiring Davis and Trae Young this year. While they are far from contenders at the moment, they were given a huge boost when they drafted AJ Dybantsa as the number one pick this year. Things seem to be going according to plan for the Wizards.

NBA Insider Brett Siegel weighed in on Davis’ future with the Wizards.
The Wizards are not interested in trading him whatsoever. They want to agree to some type of long term deal with AD… Anthony Davis wants a max extension but it’s not gonna happen… Maybe a 2-3 year extension is on the table.

The Wizards’ President is a fan of the 10-time All-Star. Back in April, Davis reiterated his desire to stay in Washington as he was not able to suit up for them last season.
Golden State Warriors are not negotiating for Anthony Davis
When it was announced that LeBron James would be a free agent in the offseason, a number of clubs were quick to show their interest and pitch in. One club that surprised everyone was the Golden State Warriors. It was reported that the Warriors were looking to acquire James and Anthony Davis this year.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported that the Warriors’ plan to acquire Davis has reached a dead end.
The conversations for AD have gone nowhere for the Warriors. I don’t sense any direction that they are picking back up in. I don’t think that’s going to be a conversation. It’s at a point now where if the Warriors were to get into that ball game, they would have to give up multiple first round picks, multiple draft picks, multiple swaps, all this other stuff.

It appears that Davis will be staying put in Washington. James is yet to decide on his future club, but it looks like he will not be joining forces with his former Lakers teammate for the upcoming season.
