Amidst all the turmoil surrounding Terrion Arnold, he believed he was getting a second chance in the NFL when the Seattle Seahawks came knocking on his door.

Usually, players show interest in signing with a Super Bowl champion team, as they want to win a ring. In the cornerback’s case, it was the other way around, as the franchise approached him to sign him off the free-agent market.

It was not as if he was swimming with offers, since not many teams would want to touch a player who is actively being investigated for his involvement in a crime.

That is also the reason why the Detroit Lions ended up releasing him, as keeping him on would not just complicate their salary cap situation, but also stop them from signing another player to replace him.

No one knows what will come of that police investigation, which is why the Michigan-based team decided to cut bait early. However, the Seahawks possibly believe he is innocent and might not face jail time. The only problem is that until something concrete happens, the defending champions cannot sign him.

The Seahawks are still planning to sign CB Terrion Arnold but are working through the timing, and it will take a while… Arnold will be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list when he signs, meaning he’d be ineligible to play or practice.

This means that the moment Terrion Arnold puts pen to paper, he will not be available to work out with the Seattle Seahawks. That dilemma is stopping this deal from going ahead, as it seems the franchise wants to see how the robbery investigation materializes.

Touching Terrion Arnold was risky for teams

It is not as if the Seattle Seahawks were not aware of the ramifications if they signed a player who is part of an active criminal investigation. Ian Rapoport details how any team attempting to sign Terrion Arnold would be aware of what they were going to face.

Teams interested in Terrion Arnold were aware that the Commissioner’s Exempt list was likely. Now, he’ll land there when he signs. While he can be in meetings, he cannot practice or play.

Being available just for meetings might not cut it, as the Seattle-based franchise was hoping the Alabama star would be the perfect replacement after Pro Bowl cornerback Tariq Woolen left for the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, Arnold is technically on house arrest unless he is practicing and playing. With the commissioner’s exemption list looming, his signing could complicate matters, as he will not be able to contribute in any meaningful way.

Terrion Arnold potentially faces life imprisonment if charged

The Seattle Seahawks may have lost key personnel in Kenneth Walker III, Tariq Woolen, and others, but most of the team is in place, which means they just need impactful personnel to cover those losses.

If Terrion Arnold clears all charges, then he will be a valuable piece, having signed on a one-year, minimum-salary deal. However, that will only happen if prosecutors cannot find enough to incriminate him.

He is currently at his home in Florida after posting a $1 million bond against the eight felony charges that have been levied against him. The 23-year-old’s attorneys argued that the prosecutors did not have enough to establish that their client had any direct involvement in the robbery and kidnapping.

Since the investigation is still ongoing and a few of the perpetrators are cooperating with law enforcement, there is a chance that their testimonies could implicate the defensive back. If that happens, and all the charges stick, Arnold could be facing life in prison.
