Scottie Scheffler is still the best player in golf. On Sunday, the World No.1 emerged as the Tour Championship winner and took home his 2nd FedEx Cup title. Following his win, he surpassed Tiger Woods in a historic PGA Tour record.

Compared to his high standards, the 2026 season has been a bit of a down year for him. This was the first time since 2024 that he did not win any major championships. He also struggled in a few events and saw his impressive streak of 78 consecutive cuts come to an end.

Despite this, he was the big winner in the playoffs once again. Two weeks ago, he clinched the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, claiming his 2nd win of the year.

After this dominant victory, he had some health issues and finished T12 during his title defense at the BMW Championship last week. This past weekend, he was back to his very best.

The 4-time major champion started the final round 3 shots behind leader Viktor Hovland. Soon after his first tee shot, he was tied for the lead as the Norwegian international struggled.

The two of them then traded the lead back and forth. After Hovland slipped up at the par-4 13th hole, there was no stopping Scheffler. In the end, he finished 3 shots ahead of Hovland and was 16-under par for the tournament. With the triumph at East Lake, he was also crowned the 2026 FedEx Cup champion.

As he finished 1st, he earned $10 million from the massive $40 million purse. This took his total career earnings up to $130,390,661. He thus surpassed Tiger Woods, who sat at the top of the list for around 26 years.

Woods could fall to No.3 as Rory McIlroy is just behind him with $119,555,515. These 3 golfers are the only players to have amassed over $100 million in career earnings on the PGA Tour.

In a post on X, the 15-time major champion congratulated Scheffler on his historic victory and praised him for his “incredible consistency.”

Three wins, five runner-ups and finishing the season No. 1. Those are some numbers to be proud of. Incredible consistency all season long. Congrats on a historic season, Scottie.

Scheffler also became just the third player after Woods (2007, 2009) and Rory McIlroy (2016, 2019, 2022) as the only player to win multiple FedEx Cup titles. As for his career wins, this was his 22nd victory in 170 PGA Tour starts.

With this, he is now heavily favored to win the 2026 PGA Tour Player of the Year Award. He has won this award 4 times in a row since 2022 and is now the favorite to complete a historic 5-peat this year.
