Micah Parsons expects big things from Dak Prescott in 2026. The former Dallas Cowboys and current Green Bay Packers edge, projects Prescott to finish as the league’s top passer.

Prescott is entering his eleventh season with the Cowboys. The four-time Pro Bowl signal caller has a couple of elite wide receivers to work with: CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

Pickens agreeing to stay in Dallas is a massive bonus for the Cowboys. Parsons believes Prescott can finish as the league’s best passer because of Lamb and Pickens’ presence on the team.

[George] Pickens looked like the best receiver in the NFL… He’s coming off a tag year and he said he’s going to show he’s the best receiver in the league. When you got that tandem of CeeDee [Lamb] and [GP]. We didn’t really see it last year and we saw what Dak [Prescott] did, 30 [touchdowns] last year without CeeDee there… I think this is gonna be the year.

Micah Parsons said on the Edge podcast (H/T Bleacher Report)

Pickens played a bigger role when Lamb missed a few games due to injury. Pickens caught 93 passes for 1429 yards (career best), 15.4 yards per catch, and scored 9 touchdowns in 17 games. Lamb caught 75 passes for 1077 yards and scored 3 touchdowns.

Dak Prescott suffers from an even-season curse

Prescott led the league with 404 passes for 4552 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Prescott earned his fourth Pro Bowl selection, but his heroics weren’t enough for the Cowboys to qualify for the playoffs. The Dallas franchise finished second in the NFC East with a 7-9-1 record. The Cowboys missed postseason football for the second straight year.

In the offseason, Pickens agreed to play the 2026 season on a franchise tag. He will earn $27.8 million and will enter free agency next year. It’s a great boost for the Cowboys’ offense that they got Pickens to stay. Other receivers to make the final 53-man roster are Ryan Flournoy, Jonathan Mingo, KaVontae Turpin, and undrafted rookie Camden Brown.

The Cowboys released former Texas Longhorns rusher Jaydon Blue and kept Javonte Williams and Malik Davis as the anchor men behind Prescott. Veteran fullback Hunter Luepke also made the team, and Dallas claimed former TCU, Arizona Cardinals, and Kansas City Chiefs rusher Emari Demercado off waivers.

According to CBS Sports, the Cowboys boast the 13th-best roster. However, it will matter little if Prescott triggers his Achilles’ heel. Per a report from Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, Prescott suffers from an uncanny “even-year curse.”

There’s a striking difference between Prescott’s appearance numbers in even-numbered years and odd-numbered years since 2019. Prescott has routinely dealt with injury in even-numbered years. Prescott has missed 25 total games in that time.

In odd-numbered years, Prescott has a completion rate of 68%, has thrown 133 touchdowns and 40 interceptions, a passer rating of 102.3, and has missed just one game. In even-numbered years, Prescott has completed 66% of his passes, thrown 43 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, and posted a 91.6 passer rating.

Prescott needs to be at his very best in 2026 to end the Cowboys’ playoff drought. On Thursday, the 33-year-old was named one of the four Dallas Cowboys team captains along with Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, and Brandon Aubrey.

The Cowboys went 2-1 in the preseason. Prescott did not feature. Sam Howell emerged as the Cowboys’ backup quarterback while Joe Milton was added to the practice squad. The Cowboys open their 2026 campaign by visiting the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
