When the New York Giants decided to give former superstar Odell Beckham Jr. another chance, fans were overjoyed. They felt that his return would be the perfect boost the team needs as they start a new era under John Harbaugh.

The 33-year-old has tried to return to the Giants since the Cleveland Browns waived him in 2021. However, he could not find a way back and chose to play for the Los Angeles Rams, with whom he won Super Bowl LVI.

However, in that game, he suffered his second ACL tear and then missed the next season rehabbing. In 2023, he signed with the Baltimore Ravens. But even that tenure lasted just a year.

The following year, he signed with the Miami Dolphins, but agreed to part ways before the turn of the new year. Last year, the NFL suspended him for six games for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

This year, he worked out for the Giants and reunited with John Harbaugh. That experiment, though, did not last long either. League insiders announced that the franchise released the veteran receiver after just three games.

Wish him the best. He’s a legend in the game. He’s definitely going to be able to make a statement somewhere. I’m not worried for him.

Kayvon Thibodeaux said

This is the Giants linebacker giving his honest, heartfelt reaction to the news while speaking with SNY. Throwing his head back was a clear indication that he did not know this was happening until the reporter informed him of it. From his answer, it seems that Kayvon Thibodeaux is not worried about his former teammate, believing he will land on another team soon.

Former wideout blasts Giants for giving up on Odell Beckham Jr.

While Kayvon Thibodeaux looked disappointed that Odell Beckham Jr. was no longer a part of the New York Giants, others did not have such a simple reaction.

When you watch him run around, you watch him move… he can still play. If given that opportunity, he would have been able to help the Giants… When I watch him run routes and I watch the explosiveness, it’s still there.

T. J. Houshmandzadeh said on Speakeasy

This was former journeyman wideout T. J. Houshmandzadeh making it clear that despite his injury history, Beckham Jr. still looks like he has the athleticism and smarts to make an impact.

The 49-year-old was baffled that the Giants did not even give him opportunities to see whether keeping him was sensible. Instead, without even finding out whether he could still make an impact, they released him.

Houshmandzadeh might have a point, as the Big Apple-based team deployed Odell Beckham Jr. on just 20 offensive snaps in three games. In that span, he was targeted just once and could not register a catch.

Giants’ offensive deployment after Jaxson Dart season-ending injury was the end of Odell Beckham Jr.’s run

While John Harbaugh admitted to thinking about Odell Beckham Jr.’s shrinking role after Sunday’s close win over the Tennessee Titans, it seems the Giants’ offensive makeup has forced them to part ways with the fan favorite.

To start with, kickoff and punt returner Braxton Berrios maxed out his three practice-squad game-day elevations. On top of that, offensive coordinator Matt Nagy has been running tight end and fullback-heavy schemes to allow Jameis Winston to ease himself back into playing as a starter.

That method might continue if they decide to send incoming trade acquisition JJ McCarthy onto the field, as he too will need time to acclimatize to the play sheet as well as his new teammates.

That method meant that the wide receiver room had shrunk, leaving no space for Odell Beckham Jr. to remain with the team that drafted him. Had Jaxson Dart avoided his season-ending knee injury, maybe the superstar could have stayed on.
