Jaylen Brown may have his share of critics, but there is no doubt that he is one of the best players in the league today. After spending 10 seasons with the Boston Celtics, he was shockingly traded to the Philadelphia 76ers this summer.
Drafted by the Celtics with the No. 3 pick in 2016, Brown led them to two NBA Finals in 2022 and 2024 and was named Finals MVP when they won the championship in 2024. Since then, many have believed he is the Celtics’ best player over Jayson Tatum.
With Tatum missing most of the 2026-27 campaign, Brown was the Celtics’ main star last season. While many predicted the Celtics would be a Play-In team at best, Brown led them to a second-place finish in the Eastern Conference standings and finished seventh in the MVP race.
Despite his spectacular season, the Celtics traded him away to the Philadelphia 76ers in one of the most surprising moves in the offseason. The move even took Brown by surprise, as he wanted to stay in Boston for another 10 years.
The 29-year-old is well known for not shying away from speaking his mind. Hence, he is often on the receiving end of criticism from the media.
The former Finals MVP posted a six-word message on X but offered no explanation or context. He wrote,
Giving up is not an option.

Several fans supported Brown in the comments and praised his strong mentality. Meanwhile, some fans were left confused by the post as it had no context.
Jaylen Brown believes his time with Team USA is over due to outside factors
While it is possible that Jaylen Brown was responding to his critics, it may have been a reference to his Olympics snub. Team USA assembled one of its strongest-ever rosters for the 2024 Paris Olympics and went on to win gold.

It was a star-studded team with LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Anthony Edwards, Joel Embiid, Jayson Tatum, and many more. But Brown wasn’t on the roster.
The forward addressed his participation with Team USA during his live stream on Twitch. He said:
I think it’s a great honor to represent your country. Unfortunately, I’ve had that experience, and we lost in the FIBA World Cup. And then I wanted to get that experience again. I don’t think I will. I think just because of other reasons, I don’t think I’ll be able to play for the USA team.

Jaylen Brown was a part of Team USA for the 2019 FIBA World Cup in China. They finished in seventh place and were eliminated by France in the quarterfinal.
After questioning the influence of shoe companies in basketball, Jaylen Brown was snubbed from the 2024 Paris Olympics squad, and it was cited that Nike is the sponsor of Team USA. Hence, it is possible that his latest post was a reference to his chances of playing for the national team.
