The LeBron James free agency saga has finally come to an end after more than three weeks of rumors and reports. The likes of Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves were the teams linked to his signature.

It was the fourth time James tested free agency in his 23-year long career. While many predicted him to return to the Cavs or Heat, James surprised everyone by joining the 76ers. It is the fourth team James has joined since joining the NBA in 2003.

James’ former teammate, Andre Drummond, missed the chance to rejoin with James after signing a one-year minimum contract with the New York Knicks. The big man took to X to react to James joining the 76ers.

Andre Drummond spent two seasons with the 76ers as he played as a backup center to Joel Embiid. After becoming a free agent, he joined the Knicks and unfortunately missed the opportunity to share the court with the King once again. The 32-year-old is open about being a fan of James and adoring him during their time together in LA.

Drummond shared the court with James during his time with the Los Angeles Lakers. He made just 21 regular season appearances for the Lakers in the 2020-21 campaign. He went on to have five more appearances alongside James during the playoffs before his exit.

James surprised the NBA world when he announced that he would join the 76ers on a two-year contract. He brought an end to his eight-year stint with the Lakers when he refused to sign a new contract after the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign.

Andre Drummond has no regrets after LeBron James signed with the 76ers

Last season was the first time that Drummond made it past the first round of the playoffs. It was his fifth postseason appearance since joining the league in 2012. After coming back from 3-1 down against the Boston Celtics, the 76ers were clean swept by the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Following James’ trade to Philly, Drummond has no plans to enlist in another tour of duty with the 76ers. He said as much on his X account.

I’m good where I’m at.

Not only did Drummond sign with the team that clean swept the 76ers, the Knicks went on to lift the championship after 53 years. He will most likely come off the bench and play second fiddle to Karl-Anthony Towns.

Hence, the former top-10 pick has no regrets about leaving the 76ers and joining the defending champions. Both teams will be strong contenders to come out of the Eastern Conference next season.

LeBron James contemplated retirement after the 2025-26 campaign

Even at this stage of his career, LeBron James had multiple contenders show interest in him when he became an unrestricted free agent. However, James revealed that he even thought about retirement as he was undecided about his future two months ago.

James’ longtime friend and agent Rich Paul believed that the reason James did not hang up his boots was because of the way he performed against the Houston Rockets without Luka Doncic.

That series in my opinion, convinced him to keep playing. I truly believe that. I think if they somehow got swept or lose 4-1 in that series, it could be different. I think that gave us another ride.

While James did contemplate retirement, his performances in the playoffs last season made him believe he still has some left in the tank and could be a valuable addition to a championship squad. With Doncic missing the entire playoffs, James led the Lakers to a first round win over the Rockets in six games.

His performances impressed everyone. The four-time NBA champion may be turning 42 at the end of the year, but he has shown the NBA world that he can still play at a very high level.
