Shedeur Sanders’ days with the Cleveland Browns could be numbered. NFL executives see the Browns targeting Arch Manning at next year’s draft.

Veteran NFL insider Jason La Canfora spoke to several executives over the last few days to gauge Jimmy Haslam’s blueprint for solving the Browns quarterback conundrum. Haslam is reportedly eyeing Texas quarterback Arch Manning as the franchise’s long-term starter.

One executive told LaCanfora that Haslam has a soft corner for the University of Tennessee football team. Peyton Manning played for the Volunteers in college before becoming one of the most decorated quarterbacks in NFL history.

Arch Manning is Peyton Manning’s nephew, and Haslam sees the young signal caller usher in a new era as the Browns prepare to move into a new stadium by 2029.

I’m not sure he’s coming out [entering the draft]. I know Jimmy, and I know how Jimmy thinks. He’s a huge booster for [University of] Tennessee. He has always had a hard-on for Peyton [Manning, uncle of the QB prospect]. He wants Arch Manning playing in that new stadium.

One longtime NFL personnel exec who knows the Browns told Jason La Canfora

Deshaun Watson is already in his last legs in Cleveland. He won the quarterback battle over Shedeur Sanders, but his Week 1 performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars ticked the fanbase off even more.

Fans were already unhappy with the veteran signal caller. During a preseason game at Huntington Field, fans booed him the entire time he was on the field. Watson verbally retaliated in the media. But later retracted his statement and apologized.

In Week one against the Jaguars, Watson went 16 of 22 for 205 yards and threw 1 touchdown pass. On paper, those numbers may look decent, but most of his passes were limited to the middle of the field, and he threw the TD with under two minutes left.

In Week 2, the Browns take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Bay Area. The Bucs lost their first game but are favored to sneak a win over the Browns. Quarterback Baker Mayfield is a former Browns quarterback who holds a grudge against them.

It’s a must-win game for Watson. They return to Cleveland in Week 3 to face the Carolina Panthers. If Watson doesn’t do well against the Bucs, the fans will let him know how they feel on home turf.

As for Shedeur Sanders, his first eighteen months as a Brown have been disappointing. Initially, he did not receive first-team opportunities last season until the back end. He went 3-4 in the regular season and threw more interceptions than touchdowns.

After taking charge, Todd Monken assured Browns fans that Sanders would get a fair chance to showcase his talent. Unfortunately, with Watson returning from injury, Sanders was pushed back to the rear seat. He did not play any part in the Jaguars game.

Then again, if Watson fails to deliver against the Buccaneers, the demand for Sanders to start against Carolina will pick up speed.

Shedeur Sanders gets positive news ahead of Week 2

Earlier this week, wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. became a free agent. The Browns then signed Horn to their practice squad.

Horn played college football at Colorado with Shedeur Sanders.

The Panthers drafted the speedy wideout 208th overall last year. Horn’s rookie year ended with 11 receptions for 108 yards. Last week, the Panthers lost to the Chicago Bears. In the game, Horn muffed a punt and had a near-fumble. He was cut shortly after.

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders in an interview revealed that he tried his best to find Horn a new home after his release.

Now he’s reunited with his college quarterback in Cleveland.
