Alpine had a complicated start to 2023, but ‘it’s getting back to order’: Renault CEO analyses
Renault CEO has announced his satisfaction with Alpine's steady steps towards success in F1.

Right before the Monaco Grand Prix, Alpine were in a troubled position as far as their spot in the Championship Standings of 2023 were concerned. The French team, who have left no stone unturned to attempt to surpass their chief rival McLaren, were tied with the papaya squad near the back of the grid. Still, owing to Esteban Ocon‘s masterful racing at the Principality, the French team managed to bring a podium win and 15 whopping points home to Enstone.
The Spanish GP saw Alpine take away 4 points with Ocon getting P8 and Pierre Gasly snatching the last position in the top 10. Then, at the Canadian GP, Alpine once again performed well–but this time, Ocon managed to score points while their new recruit Gasly failed in his quest. Thus, with joint efforts of both the Frenchmen, Alpine are now proudly perched at the fifth spot in the rankings with 27 points above McLaren.
Commenting on the slow yet steady pace with which Alpine seem to be advancing this season, the CEO of their parent company Renault claimed he is quite pleased. Luca de Meo said, “The team is moving up. This year it’s a little bit complicated at the beginning of the season but it’s getting back into order. I hope we can just continue.”

Renault CEO teases that Alpine have a ‘roadmap’ to plan their progress in F1

Last year, Alpine were wound up in a close-fought battle with McLaren and Aston Martin. Now, Lawrence Stroll‘s team has shown exemplary results, with their current position fixed in the third place on the F1 Standings. But Alpine fell back from the fight against AMR. Still, Renault CEO Luca de Meo said, “Two years ago we were a distant sixth, really. We fought against AlphaTauri, that was the fifth car but they only had one driver. Last year we finished fourth. We have a roadmap, it’s progress that you build one step at a time because it takes time.”
With Luca de Meo’s assurance and Otmar Szafnauer’s 100-race plan and the onboarding of some new investors including Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds, it seems like Alpine might be well on their way towards an Aston Martin-style miracle. And in the upcoming seasons of F1, we will find the French squad competing at the top of the standings against the likes of Mercedes and Red Bull.
