Ever since the FIA announced their report on the audit of the expenditures of the various teams from last year, the Formula One community has been waiting for the penalties to be announced for the offenders. Quite a few days have passed since the revealing of the FIA’s audit reports, yet Red Bull have maintained till date that they have not crossed the cost ceiling. That is the reason why the two parties have not been able to reach an agreement regarding the penalties. And, now, the fans have not gotten any news about how Red Bull is going to be punished for tweaking with the F1 rules.

On the Saturday ahead of the United States Grand Prix, some of the fans, enraged at the FIA’s inaction with regards to the cost cap scandal involving Red Bull, started protesting as Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez took the stage during a press event. And then they called the Red Bull drivers “cheaters” in a defiant show of how they believe the British team manipulated their way to help Max Verstappen win the Drivers’ Championship last year.

In the recent years, as Formula One has become more open to people of every sort, there have been reports of barbaric behavior from the fans during the Grands Prix. At an event ahead of the United States GP on Satuday, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez walked up to the stage when the host called them, but their voices were drowned by those of the hundreds of fans who started calling them “cheaters” in relation to Red Bull’s involvement in the cost cap scandal.

This is not the first time that F1 drivers have fallen prey to the fans’ hooliganism at the Grands Prix. As the season progresses towards its end and the competition heightens, the fans become more rowdy and show such unsolicited behaviour. Last year, a similar incident took place at Zandvoort, where Lewis Hamilton was booed by Max Verstappen’s fans at the Dutch GP.
