Max Verstappen and Netflix’s famous Drive To Survive series have a long and unpleasant history. The documentary type series had its first season go on air, which captured some nail, biting moments and interviews from the 2018 F1 season. As soon as the series dropped on Netflix, it ignited a spark of interest for Formula 1 amongst fans worldwide. The sheer drama and intensity portrayed in the episodes was enough to get a fan hooked to the pinnacle of motorsport.

Over the seasons, Hass, F1 team, principal, Guenther Steiner has amassed pretty huge fan base due to his nature and extensive use of cuss words. While there were a lot of funny moments captured, the series also made a deep dive into the drivers minds where they went behind the scenes to give people access to forbidden content. While the series became a big hit amongst the crowd, Drive to survive, hide and exponential amount of fans hailing from the United States.

While all this was well and good, Max Verstappen pointed out the obvious faults that were in the series. He publicly accused Netflix for instigating fake drama and not giving proper context for some of the events that took place. The use of clips and audios from different events was also a bit disappointing. Verstappen had boycotted D2S after season 1 where he was portrayed in a bad light. However, he is back for season 5 as Netflix has agreed to make the changes that he asked for.

Max Verstappen is still not a fan of Drive To Survive

In an interview with GPblog, here is what he had to say regarding the situation with the producers of Drive to Survive. I hope, I mean, I hope they, of course, understood my message and I also know that especially being a world champion, that you have to be part of something like that. So I think I gave them like 30 minutes or one hour of an interview and I hope of course they’re gonna use it,” he said.

It is clear that Max Verstappen still isn’t very fond of the highly rated series. The Red Bull driver hasn’t decided as to whether he will watch it. “Well, I don’t know if I’m going to watch it, but, yeah, I hope they’re happy and I hope, of course I can be happy after watching it. I know that it’s important to Formula 1 as well that, for growing this in general,” he concluded.

After winning back to back driver’s world championships, Max Verstappen is busy preparing for the upcoming 2023 F1 season. With pre season testing taking place this week, it will be interesting to see how Max and Sergio fare against Ferrari and Mercedes. Critics and fans are confident that this season will bring the top teams extremely close to each other in terms of performance. It is clear that fans are truly in for a ride.
