Fernando Alonso has come to the Canadian GP with only one goal in mind and that is to emerge victorious on Sunday. Prior to that, there have been a few interesting incidents that have taken place. The Canadian GP was also on the verge of cancellation due to the wildfires that were actively taking place. Nevertheless, F1 was given the green light to go ahead with the event.

Free Practice is an important part of an F1 weekend. All the teams bring upgrades to the track which they want to test out. Even losing out on one session can result in drastic losses. The 2023 Canadian GP first free practice session is was one of them. After just 4 minutes of running, the session had to be canceled . This was due to the CCTV cameras on the track not working due to some issue. Fernando Alonso wasn’t a big fan of the decision to stop the session.

The session was initially interrupted by Pierre Gasly whose car came to a stop on the track due to a problem on its spare steering wheel. Race Control on the other hand was unable to start the session again as it was not receiving up-to-date CCTV pictures. This meant that the team didn’t have any eyes on track and this was a cause of concern for the safety of the drivers.

In an interview, here is what he had to say. “ It was a shame,” said Alonso. “I think it was not ideal for the teams, but mostly it was for the fans that came very early to the circuit, and we were not able to run in FP1,” he continued. “We didn’t have time because FP1, unfortunately, the cameras or whatever on the circuit didn’t work and we didn’t have a Plan B, as all these times in this sport,” he concluded.

Lance Stroll on the other hand had a much calmer attitude as he stated that it would be the same condition for everyone. Lawrence Stroll wanted Aston Martin to get a double podium in Canada. With Qualifying taking place today, everyone will get a fair idea of how close Aston is towards achieving that goal. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso will be gunning for his 33rd win in Formula 1.
