Aston Martin has had a mixed season in 2023, but overall, it was an incredible improvement from their previous campaigns. Led by Fernando Alonso, the team achieved multiple podiums with him, especially in the first part of the season. Alonso’s teammate Lance Stroll also had his best-ever F1 season.
The Canadian driver started 2023 with a great result, finishing in sixth place while still in recovery from a wrist fracture. Stroll remained largely consistent through the season, scoring 74 points throughout the year. Alonso applauded Stroll’s dedication through the struggles that he faced all year, especially the recovery from the wrist fracture.
It was impressive to see his dedication and his motivation in the highs and the lows, at the beginning of the year with a broken hand and then through the season he was so determined to put things back in place again.Fernando Alonso said, as reported by total-motorsport.com
Stroll managed his highest-ever championship finish in 10th place, far behind Oscar Piastri but still high enough to help Aston Martin secure P4 in the Constructors’ Championship, a personal best for them. With upgrades promised for the 2024 season, Stroll will be looking forward to the next campaign.
Fernando Alonso reveals opportunities for victory in 2023
Fernando Alonso had his best Formula One season in a decade, since finishing second in 2013. The Spaniard managed an incredible eight podiums in the 2023 season, finishing fourth in the Championship with 206 points to his name.
Although Alonso managed eight podiums, he could not accrue a race victory in 2023, narrowly missing out a few times. The 42-year-old said that the top step of the podium nearly came in Monaco, but the opportunity was taken away by a strategic error. Another close call came in the rainy, chaotic session at Zandvoort. On both occasions, Alonso finished the race in second behind World Champion Max Verstappen.
Probably Monaco was the closest, with a tyre call change or something. Maybe Zandvoort if we were in a different position in that restart or something.
Fernando Alonso said, from formula1.com
We probably had opportunities [to win] here and there, and yes, I believe that we deserve it more than anyone else this year.
Fernando Alonso is yet to achieve his 33rd win in F1, but after the 2023 season, it has become very evident that he will not stop until he does. The 2x Champion has said that his passion for training and preparing for driving in the pinnacle of motorsport has not diminished, and this dedication is exhibited in his impressive results in 2023.
