Fernando Alonso gives his insights ahead of the 2023 Austrian GP race weekend.

Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin seem to have hit it straight out of the ballpark this year. Having been a part of Alpine, (formerly Renault) the Spaniard was mocked by fans and critics when he announced his decision to join Aston Martin for 2023. The team hadn’t been very strong and was a lower midfield team until this year. Their foundation for the future which was laid out a while ago finally came to fruition.
Fernando Alonso has been pushing the Aston Martin to the limit. The Spaniard has already earned multiple podiums and is third in the driver’s standings ahead of Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen. Meanwhile, his teammate Lance Stroll hasn’t been able to match his level. While Alonso is out there carrying the team, his teammate has been struggling in the midfield.
Ahead of the 2023 Austrian GP, Fernando Alonso gives his insights on the track and the team’s plan of action. Alonso will come to Austria after triumph in Canada where he finished P2 and beat Lewis Hamilton in a fight for the same spot. Meanwhile, Stroll had to settle for ninth ahead of Valtteri Bottas. The Aston Martin drivers will have to be careful of Mercedes who have a similar upgrade plan put in place.
Fernando Alonso wants to take back second place in the constructors
In an interview, here is what he had to say. “It’s a fast and short lap here and it usually provides some good racing and overtaking. You have to be careful of the run-off areas and try to avoid damage to the cars with the harsh kerbs. I look forward to seeing what we can do. The target will be to keep up this form and score as many points for the team as we try to take back second place in the Constructors’ Championship,” the two time F1 world champion stated.
Red Bull Ring will be the 10th race of the 2023 season and will also have the honour of hosting the second sprint of the season. With a total of 71 laps in the race, it will be interesting to see what the Aston Martin driver lineup is capable of achieving. Will Fernando Alonso be able to fend off Red Bull and Mercedes to finally achieve his 33rd win in the pinnacle of motorsport?
