Guenther Steiner, the Team Principal of the Haas F1 team, has expressed delight at his team. Steiner has further made it known that Haas is back to being a normal F1 team after its recent progress. The Italian-American is especially pleased with the rate of development that the team has managed to achieve.

The Haas F1 team sacrificed its 2021 season with the hope of coming out strong during 2022. Moreover, when the last year’s F1 campaign began, to everybody’s surprise, the team was able to score points in the first race of the season and ended the campaign by securing an eighth place in the Constructors standings.

However, the team was not able to make as much progress as everyone wanted to see. It was mostly down to Haas’ incapability of bringing regular upgrades during the 2022 F1 campaign. Other F1 teams kept on bringing new upgrades at different races, and because of this, Haas fell down in the pecking order.

Had they managed to bring upgrades regularly last year, they could have found themselves even higher in last year’s Constructors Championship. The Haas F1 team finished 18 points behind Aston Martin. They could have become a nuisance for them and other midfield teams but just were not able to do it because of its operational problems.

While Guenther Steiner and Co. were not able to make a huge impression in the F1 midfield last year, they are not willing to do the same during the 2023 F1 season. While talking about it Steiner said, “As I say to my guys now, whatever happens here, how we perform, we are now back to being a normal team – whatever ‘normal’ means – because we just keep on developing.”

In 2021 obviously there was no development, so we cannot even begin to talk. I think they did a very good job in 2021 to get the 2022 car out, but everything was done in a hurry and we had to fix a lot of problems. While this year, they are now growing together as a team and they work much better. So this year, it’s normal like any other team. If we are not where we are, [it’s] ‘where is our problem? What do we need to develop? Let’s get on with it. We have got the budget cap, so we can do it,” He added.

Going into the future, I think we will find a little bit later in the season – not late in the season, but in the middle of the season – where we want to get [to], where our weaknesses are after the start of the season and then to address it. Whether we need to make the team stronger and how are we going to do that.”

Guenther Steiner has indicated that the Haas F1 team is in a much better position this year compared to what they have managed in the last few seasons. Moreover, when it comes to the current campaign, the Italian has indicated that his team has not set any targets just yet. They want to wait a bit more to get a clearer picture of the capabilities of its car and then see how much can be achieved this year.

Considering how the Haas team was able to trouble the midfield teams on occasions last year, would they be able to do the same in 2023? Or are you expecting to see a lot more fights from the American team this time around? No matter what happens, Haas will definitely be more prepared this year. Moreover, it would also be fascinating to see who would be the dominant racer between Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg.
