Guenther Steiner is the team principal for Haas F1 team. Formula 1 did not have an American team competing in the sport for a long time. And then came Haas F1, a fully American team wanting to capitalise on the sport’s increasing popularity in the United States. Gene Haas who is the owner of the F1 outfit ran a successful NASCAR team and then shifted his focus to Formula 1, where he made Steiner as the head of operations.
As many of you must have noticed, which Haas being an American F1 team, there is no American driver, competing with them in the pinnacle of motorsport. Guenther Steiner went on to explain the case behind this mystery. Logan Sergeant has joined Williams F1 racing for the 2023 season where he will be racing full time. He will be the first American to have a full time a full-time F1 seat . What was the surprising is the fact that he is racing for a British team instead of an American team.
Haas team boss Guenther Steiner explained that the reason behind the team’s decision to not go with Logan Sergeant was solely based on his experience in the pinnacle of motorsport. at the end of the 2022 F1 season, Haas decided to not renew Mick Schumacher’s contract with the team for a similar reason. it was clear that the American outfit wanted to achieve success in the sport and experience was much needed for this to be possible.

Guenther Steiner preferred experience over new talent
In an interview with Texan broadcaster KVUE , here is what he had to say. “I think what we need to see is to make a development of an American driver, which is very difficult. We had the last two years ago with two rookies, last year with one inexperienced driver. And we as a team are still very young. And for us at the moment there is more performance to be gained for the team to make it better, to get ready, because at the moment there is no American driver with experience in F1,” he continues.
“Therefore, we decided not to take an American again,” he stated. Guenther Steiner further said that there is a chance that Logan Sergeant would join the team in the future. “I wish that he makes experience and then once he has made experience, he comes to us, the American team. How about that?” he concluded.
After looking at the way Haas had performed in the last few years with rookies in their team, it was clear that Steiner wasn’t going to take that same risk again. For the 2023 season, the Haas team boss has Kevin Magnuson and Nico Hulkenberg as his drivers. With Magnusson already proving what he is made of, it will be interesting to see how Nico Hulkenberg performs in his first season back in the sport.
