“I like that he knows what he wants”: Max Verstappen’s girlfriend Kelly Piquet gives a rare view into the Dutchman’s personal life

As a pleasant surprise to all the Max Verstappen fans, the Dutchman’s girlfriend Kelly Piquet recently sat for a conversation with the Dutch Vogue. The Brazilian model appeared on the cover of the magazine’s December issue, and spilled some facts about her relationship with the two-time World Champion as well as how Max is quite similar to Kelly Piquet’s father Nelson Piquet.
While Kelly Piquet is a Brazilian by nationality, her connection with the Netherlands is a special one. She is currently dating Dutch racer Max Verstappen, and her mother Sylvia Tamsma also hails from the country. Thus, it is not surprising that she chose the Ducth Vogue to be her first cover appearance as a model. Being called for a Vogue cover shoot is an achievement for every model in the world, and Kelly accomplished that feat at the age of 34.
Kelly Piquet’s Vogue interview has attracted attention not only from the audience of the Dutch Vogue magazine, but also from motorsports fans from all corners of the world. Her life has always revolved around the Formula 1 paddocks as she hails from the Piquet family, which has made its own name in the world of motorsports. And she is the mother of former Red Bull racer Daniil Kvyat’s child Penelope Kvyat. And lastly, Kelly Piquet is the partner of Max Verstappen, F1’s brightest superstar right now.

Kelly Piquet believes Max Verstappen’s humility is his biggest strength
As the daughter of three-time F1 World Champion Nelson Piquet, Kelly is no stranger to the world of F1 but she said she learnt more about motor racing from her brother. According to Piquet, “I was always very involved in my brother’s career. I’ve experienced the ups and downs, seen what pressure does to someone. This world is so familiar to me, I know what those guys go through.”
While Kelly Piquet has a strong familial connection to Formula 1, her link to this community does not only end there. From 2017, she used to date Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat, and in July, 2019, the couple announced the birth of their daughter Penelope. Their relationship ran its course in December of the same year, and in 2021, she appeared in various paparazzi shots with Max Verstappen. Speaking of what drew her to the two-time World Champion, she said, “He remains so humble, he has both feet firmly on the ground. What I really like is that he knows what he wants and he is not afraid to say it.”
When Max Verstappen won his first-ever F1 World title in 2021 after a hard-fought battle with Lewis Hamilton, Kelly was waiting for him amongst the Red Bull crowd to congratulate him. The two hugged at that time, and it showed that Kelly has been a massive support for Max on his quest for the topmost position in the F1 world. Now, it only remains to be seen if their bonds gives Max Verstappen enough strength to complete his title hat-trick by scoring one more World Championship in the upcoming 2023 season.
