Mclaren F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo has been struggling a lot this season. A bit more compared to the last one but that will all come to an end after the next two races. It is clear that the Honey Badger will not be racing in the sport next season as he and his current team decided to part ways. Following that announcement, it seems like Daniel was not able to find a good seat for next year and allegedly will be settling for a reserve role.

The McLaren driver had an eventful race to say the least. After looking at his previous performances in the year, there was something very different about this one. It seemed as if Daniel Ricciardo had gotten the grip of his car and had the pace to finish in P7 ahead of his teammate Lando Norris. During the 51st lap of the race, the Honey Badger made contact with Yuki Tsunoda while trying to make a move on him for P11.

After his collision with Yuki Tsunoda, the Aussie driver went on to go on a brilliant charge and didn’t let a 10 second penalty affect him in any way. As Daniel Ricciardo approaches his last 2 races with McLaren, questions arise regarding the explanation behind his performance and why he couldn’t potentially get similar results over the past few races in the season. It’s all up for speculation but here is what the 8 time grand prix winner had to say about it.

Here is what the Aussie driver had to say with regards to his results this weekend. “It’s so nice,” Daniel said as he hinted towards the performance that was displayed . “I wish there was an explanation why it hasn’t been like this more often, races where I can just lean on the car and kind of put it where I want.

“Obviously there’s only a few left, better late than never, happy to have had an attacking race. I feel normally if we’re in the points, we’re looking in the mirrors, so to come through the field felt good and yeah, the team I’m sure feel happy as well, and relieved after the penalty,” he continued.

Daniel Ricciardo managed to impress the fans this weekend as he finished 2 spots ahead of his teammate Lando Norris while also grabbing “Driver of the Day”. It’s a shame to see a driver of his calibre to be leaving the sport but it is what the situation has presented him with and his performance in Mexico might have given Ricciardo an upper hand in any contract negotiations with teams over reserve roles.
