Lando Norris set to miss Thursday at the Brazilian Grand Prix due to suspected food poisoning
Lando Norris will miss the Thursday of the Brazilian Grand Prix due to suspected food poisoning
Lando Norris is one of the most promising talents currently in Formula 1. The British driver impressed the critics in his junior career eventually getting the seat at the McLaren F1 team in 2019. In the 2022 season, Norris has scored most of the points of the team and has been consistently delivering good results. As the end of the season is almost here, The British team is looking to defeat Alpine and get fourth place in the constructor’s championship.
Right at the beginning of the race weekend at Interlagos, Norris has fallen ill with suspected food poisoning, resulting in the British driver being forced to rest in his hotel and not being able to be in the Formula 1 paddock. McLaren tweeted, “Lando is feeling unwell with suspected food poisoning, so he will rest in the hotel today. We expect him back on track tomorrow.” Thus the 22-year-old will miss out on all Thursday activities arranged as the team heads for the penultimate round of the season.
The British driver is expected to be fit by the next day and take part in the runnings on Friday, as McLaren said, “We expect him back at track tomorrow.” Although this will depend on Lando’s health recovery overnight, we do hope he gets well and things do not get worse from here. Missing out on one day’s running is painful enough but this is even more important as Qualifying is taking place on Friday itself as part of the F1 Sprint weekend. Missing out on it will put the Brit on the backfoot for the whole weekend.
Lando Norris expected to be back in the F1 paddock by Friday
In the first two seasons of his F1 career, Norris matched his more experienced teammate, Carlos Sainz right from the get-go. The 22-year-old was not behind the Spaniard as he accustomed himself to racing at the pinnacle of motorsport. He also achieved his first podium in this timeframe, at the 2020 Austrian Grand Prix. His consistency impressed Zak Brown who put Norris at the center of the team’s future plans.
When Daniel Ricciardo arrived at McLaren in 2021, it was widely assumed that Norris would have a difficult time matching his new teammate who was a multiple Grand Prix winner and was considered world championship material by critics. Yet Norris proved them wrong as he outpaced Daniel in the majority of races, leading to McLaren inevitably replacing the Australian.
Thus Norris had indeed solidified his place as the team leader at the Woking-based team. As 2023 approaches, the Brit has will have the team build the car around him as they look forward to closing the gap to the top three and having a chance of fighting for the title.
