Lewis Hamilton had wanted to ‘puke’ at Toto Wolff’s suggestion regarding the Mercedes crew
Toto Wolff describes how Lewis Hamilton believes the Mercedes Boss's taste in music is too inferior.
In 2013, when Lewis Hamilton joined Mercedes, the F1 community was surprised to see the then-reigning World Champion take such a risk. Fast forward to 2014, Hamilton silenced his critics by breaking Red Bull racer Sebastian Vettel’s four-time title-winning streak with a masterful performance that took him straight to the top of the rankings. Since then, Hamilton has solidified his position as an integral part of Mercedes and he has also become his boss Toto Wolff’s pillar of support.
While Lewis’ contract goes null and void at the end of this current 2023 season, its renewal remains uncertain. But Toto Wolff has no intention of letting the seven-time World Champion leave Mercedes. The Briton has been with the Stuttgart outfit for a decade now, and Toto and his relationship has flourished throughout this time. In fact, the Austrian former banker has said he believes Mercedes’ deal renewal with Lewis Hamilton has already been “emotionally signed” even though nothing has been confirmed on paper.
As friendships go, Toto Wolff always takes Lewis Hamilton’s inputs regarding the workings of their team. But Toto and Lewis do have some disagreements too. In a recent interview, Toto Wolff admitted how his star Mercedes recruit once said he might “puke” at his choice of music. He said, “Many years ago I said to him, ‘What would you think if we were to play AC/DC’s Thunderstruck in the garage before going out with the cars, to have all the mechanics listen to this?’ and he said, ‘It would make me puke!’”

Nothing but a £250 Million worth contract will convince Lewis Hamilton to stay at Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes team go way back. In recent times, the Briton has contributed largely towards getting his team back to their winning ways in 2023 after the tragedies of last year. But as Lewis’ contract faces its end in November, a renewal has not been drawn out for him. And only the seven-time World Champion is responsible for this as he has claimed he will not settle for a salary less than £250 Million a year. But Toto Wolff has said, “I’m doing everything I can to make him stay. I think there is no need to persuade him.”
The F1 racers are currently enjoying a break after a long string of twelve races, amongst which, Lewis has collected four podiums. While Lewis’ longtime racing rival Max Verstappen has been spotted plenty of times by the paparazzi enjoying a holiday in Sardinia, the Briton has kept a low profile during this time. But, a few days ago, he did deliver a speech at his Mission44 event where he talked about pursuing several businesses outside of his F1 career.
