Lewis Hamilton SLAMS Red Bull for sacking former Mercedes reserve driver Nyck deVris
Lewis Hamilton has given his take on the cruel dismissal of Nyck deVries by Red Bull's sister team AlphaTauri.
The Hungarian GP is round the corner, but one of the racers who had started their F1 journey this year will not be present for it. AlphaTauri racer Nyck deVries got prematurely dropped from his team mid-season due to his poor performance as he was struggling at the very back of the grid. After failing to score a single point in the first ten F1 Grands Prix of the 2023 season, the Red Bull authorities in charge of recruitment for their sister team AlphaTauri made the decision to sack deVries and take up former McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo instead.
Because of one ruthless decision by the people sitting at the Red Bull headquarters, Nyck deVries, who had waited so long for his F1 debut, suddenly lost his footing before even establishing himself as an experience racer in the king class of motorsports. The Dutchman had garnered victories at Formula 2 as well as Formula E, but he could not find an entry into F1 because of a lack of prospects. But luck finally struck him when Helmut Marko took notice of his skills as he stepped in for Williams’ Alex Albon at the Italian GP last year.
Marko recognized Nyck’s talent and brought him into the Red Bull fold as a driver for their sister team. But the 28-year-old was outperformed by his much younger teammate Yuki Tsunoda at every outing, leading to Marko taking the decision to axe him. Lewis Hamilton has observed several racers get cut off from Red Bull mid-season throughout his long career. The Austrian team had previously demoted the likes of Pierre Gasly and Daniil Kvyat citing poor performance as well. Commenting on this ruthless practice, Hamilton said, “I’d say that’s how Red Bull works.”

Lewis Hamilton quips up at future prospects for Nyck deVries
Nyck deVries wole up one day to the devastating news of having his Formula 1 dream snatched away from his too soon. Speaking on the way he was kicked out of AlphaTauri, Lewis Hamilton said, “I was definitely surprised to see the decision they took with poor Nyck. I think his future is still bright for him and he’ll have lots of great options, I’m sure. If he still wants it, keep his chin up. It’s one of those ones, like anything in life, you get knocked down, but it’s how you get back up. I wish him well, and if I ever saw him on the grid again, I’d be happy.“
But Nyck deVries was recently spotted enjoying a meal with Mercedes’ Team Principal Toto Wolff following the knews of his oisting from AlphaTauri. The racer has already won the Formula E Championship for the Mercedes alongside Stoffel Vandoorne. Now, it remains to be seen whether deVries will make a comeback to F1 with a role at Mercedes once this current season ends.
