The United States Grand Prix appeared to be a steep mountain for Red Bull driver Max Verstappen as he qualified P6 for the race. Many of the spectators expected the Dutchman to be bested by one of his rivals, which would have been a sight that has only been seen once in 2023 at Singapore. Regardless, these spectators were treated to a ‘clinical execution of a race win’ by Max Verstappen and he claimed his 15th ’23 victory in the United States.
After his win, the Dutch driver was sadly ‘booed’ by the spectators at the Circuit of the Americas. One big reason for the boos might be his rival’s popularity in the States. Lewis Hamilton is widely known and supported in the US. Hamilton drove a brilliant race and finished as the runners-up only 2 seconds behind Verstappen. The crowd was cheering Hamilton on as he looked to close his gap to the Red Bull driver rapidly but Verstappen kept his lead and emerged as the winner.
The Dutchman addressed the booing and had a classic reply while speaking to ViaPlay.
Max Verstappen commented about the fans booeing him at COTA.In the end I'm the one who takes home the silverware, so it's fine with me.
Christian Horner thought about ‘shutting off’ Max Verstappen at the US GP
Max Verstappen’s exploits on track have been invaluable to Red Bull. The 3 time World Champion has propelled the team to the very top of the sport and has continued to etch an era of utter dominance in Formula 1. However, the Dutchman’s short temper and his tendency of getting riled up is widely known.
One such incident happened during FP2 at COTA as the driver took to his radio to express his anger using slurs. His radio correspondent, Gianpiero Lambiase, is often at the helm of the driver’s explosive radio calls as was the case at the US GP. Red Bull Boss, Christian Horner hilariously considered shutting Verstappen’s mouth with a sticker in a viral video.
The hilarious video depicts Horner trying to stick a sponsor sticker to Verstappen’s mouth before applying it on a box. Max is extremely close to his team and although they might appear to bicker and banter, they have displayed superior teamwork whenever needed, especially this season.
