“McLaren declaring war on everyone” – F1 Fans react after Lando Norris collides with Charles Leclerc at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix
Charles Leclerc is furious after Lando Norris pushes him into the barriers at Interlagos
Charles Leclerc wasn’t a happy man after Lando Norris collided with his Ferrari at the 2022 Brazilian GP. His car was forced into the barriers, but the Monegasque man somehow managed to keep the engine running to avoid a DNF.
Leclerc has had an underwhelming 2022 season, the Ferrari driver had aimed to fight for the Formula 1 world championship this year but after a series of bad strategic calls, reliability problems, and driver errors, the 25-year-old lost out the championship to Max Verstappen by a big margin. Lando Norris has had an impressive season in 2022. The British driver has provided solid results for McLaren ever since his debut in 2019 and this year he has been the sole McLaren scoring points on a regular basis.
Both Norris and Leclerc are two impressive young talents, both are the flag bearers for their respective teams. With the F1 season coming to an end, the two drivers looked set to get a decent points haul at Interlagos this weekend, especially crucial for Norris, to beat Alpine in the teams’ championship. Leclerc, meanwhile looks to end the year on a high note as the Scuderia aims to fight for the title next year.
Charles Leclerc furious after Lando Norris forced the Monegasque into the barriers
The Brazilian Grand Prix has been filled with incidents, from the first lap itself, we have seen Daniel Ricciardo making contact with Kevin Magnussen, ending the race for both cars. After the safety car started, after Max Verstappen made contact with Lewis Hamilton, it was the turn of the other McLaren of Norris to collide with Leclerc’s Ferrari, forcing the red car into the barriers. Thankfully for Charles, the car was still running and he was able to bring it to the pits for a change of front wing.
Leclerc was not happy and even cursed Lando on his team radio, he said “He’s a D**K!” Fans on Twitter were displeased as well, many of whom joked about both the McLaren cars being on a mission today, One fan said, “McLaren declaring war on everyone rn” while another user replied, “The McLarens are out there playing bumper cars… Not cool.” A few fans also pointed out the number of racing incidents in the race, with one user saying, “Didn’t know we where watching formula rookie” while another fan commented, “Half the grid to seem to have forgotten how to drive this weekend!”
The collision has ruined the race for both drivers, and what seemed to be a fight for a possible podium spot at the Brazilian Grand Prix is now just two drivers trying to recover the lost ground in the race. Especially problematic for McLaren as this allows Alpine a golden opportunity to increase their lead in the constructors’ standings. Mercedes too are not that far off from the Scuderia in the championship.
