Nyck de Vries nears an AlphaTauri move after holding reported talks with Helmut Marko
Amidst rumors that Pierre Gasly is supposedly leaving AlphaTauri after the end of the current 2022 F1 season, there have been some reports claiming that F2 2019 World Champion Nyck de Vries was spotted with Red Bull Chief Advisor Helmut Marko. While no conclusive details could be drawn from the gossip that was going around in the F1 World since yesterday, it has now been confirmed that the two were indeed seen in Graz.
When AUTOhebdo confirmed the news that it was Helmut Marko and Nyck de Vries who were having a conversation with each other in Graz, F1 fans started exploring Twitter with their suspicions. According to them, Pierre Gasly will part ways with the Red Bull sister team in the next season, and that will leave the seat beside Yuki Tsunoda vacant. And if the recent reports are anything to go by, Red Bull is considering de Vries as a potential recruit for 2023.
Besides the fact that de Vries and Marko were in talks about a supposed contract, it has also been stated officially that they have mutually agreed for the F2 alumnus to shift to F1 in the upcoming season. And that would mean that the 27-year-old will pair with Tsunoda, who joined the league last year with Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin.

Nyck de Vries is almost confirmed to make a move to AlphaTauri in 2023
A few weeks ago, word got out that Nyck de Vries is one of the top candidates in AlphaTauri’s list to replace Pierre Gasly. The French driver, after his long stint at AlphaTauri ever since he got demoted in 2019, is looking forward to joining fellow Frenchman Esteban Ocon in Alpine to take up Fernando Alonso’s seat. Sebastian Vettel’s retirement and Alonso’s surprising move to Aston Martin is the highlight of next year’s driver market, as it has sent ripples through the driver lineups of the other teams as well.
In the future, if Nyck de Vries performs well as an AlphaTauri driver, there might even be provisions for him to move up to Red Bull. This path has been followed by Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly before him. Now, it only remains to be seen if the former Formula E Champion manages to keep up with the expectations that his fans have for him in F1.
