The 2023 Canadian GP has gotten off to an interesting start. Max Verstappen comes into the race weekend as the championship leader hoarding a sizeable gap to P2 in the standings. With FP1 being canceled due to issues with the circuit’s CCTV cameras, there was even less running for the teams. With just 4 minutes of running time completed for FP1, the focus shift to FP2 in order to catchup.

Friday’s second practice session was then extended to 90 minutes following the cancellation of FP1. In the session, Lewis Hamilton secured the top spot with Max Verstappen being a sixth as he finished finished 0.424s down on the Mercedes driver. It was a bit surprising to see the Dutchman so low in the standing. Just before, Max had gone onto get a grand slam in the 2023 Spanish GP.

However FP3 seemed to be much better for the Red Bull driver. With Max Verstappen setting the fastest time ahead of qualifying, he is definitely the favourite for pole apart from Lance Stroll. Meanwhile Sergio Perez went on to finish in 17th place. Max had complained about the kerbs in Montreal and how they have affected his driving so much. He further went on to explain his concerns with regards to the car.

In an interview, here is what the Red Bull driver had to say. “I think we still have some work to do,” Verstappen said. “The car is not fantastic at the moment over the bumps and over the kerbs. “It’s not too bad but we definitely need to fine tune a few things. “We know our limitations with the car and with the track, how it is now with the kerbs and the bumps. It’s definitely not suiting our package for now, but we’ll try to find a few improvements,” he stated.

With Red Bull all ready for Qualifying, it will be interesting to see how it all goes. With the rain becoming a probable factor, things will get even spicier. Max Verstappen won in Canada last year with a dominating performance under his belt. It will be hard to replicate that but it is definitely possible. The bumps in Montreal will play a big factor in how the car performs. Ferrari do have a slight advantage on the team. It will be lovely to see if they can challenge for pole position.
