“Very aggressive, but always competitive”: Pierre Gasly describes how Max Verstappen has evolved from those initial days in F1

At 26 years of age, Pierre Gasly is already in his sixth year as a Formula 1 racer. Being in the game for so long, the Frenchman has been embroiled in enough drivers’ market drama since 2019. After spending two years as a Toro Rosso recruit alongside Brendon Hartley, Gasly was given a life-changing contract by Red Bull to drive beside Max Verstappen. Ever since then, Pierre Gasly has been a close friend of Verstappen’s, and he has seen the rise of the Dutchman in Formula 1. But Gasly’s own career took a hit when he was replaced by Alex Albon mid-season as the Red Bull executives were not happy with the results he gave to the team.
Ever since then, Pierre Gasly has been a full-time driver for Red Bull’s sister team Toro Rosso, which later got rebranded into Scuderia AlphaTauri. Till date, even though there have been sever rumors and speculations, Gasly has not been brought back by Red Bull to take a seat at the Milton-Keynnes-based team. And from the sidelines, Gasly has watched his former teammate Max Verstappen go on to win the World Championship in 2021. Now, Gasly has commented on how Max Verstappen has evolved from those earlier days at Red Bull Racing to the Championship-worthy racer that he is today.

Pierre Gasly discusses Max Verstappen’s improvement through the Formula 1 seasons
Pierre Gasly and Max Verstappen have been each other’s acquaintances for a long time as the two contemporaries have contested against each other for the past 15 years. The Dutchman has now received his first World Championship title at the tender age of 23, and os on the way towards securing a second title victory in this season as well.
Having witnessed Verstappen’s journey right from the beginning, Pierre Gasly talked about how he has evolved from his initial “aggressive” self to the calm-headed winner that he is today. And the Frenchman also said he hopes to go up against Verstappen again sometime in future.
Speaking on Max Verstappen’s recent performances in the last couple of years in F1, Pierre Gasly said, “He’s obviously extremely talented. He’s excellent. I think the experience and the combination of what he built with Red Bull Racing is just an incredibly efficient package.”
Gasly also said, “He was probably a bit raw when he came in F1, very aggressive and made a couple of mistakes at the start even if he was always super competitive. But I think now over the last few years he has just completely proven his potential.”
