WATCH: “I would’ve thrown someone in the water…”: Max Verstappen lets his evil plans be known while trying his hand at sailing boats
Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez
Motorsports is all about pushing the boundaries, and Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez participated in an event where they did just that! The two F1 racers went to the sea for a day, and had the time of their lives doing some practice for–SailGP! They put up quite the spectacle off the shores of St. Tropez, France, as they put their skills to test driver off the racetrack and on the waters.
Red Bull dropped the video of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez driving a SailGP boat on their YouTube page. The video has, since then, created ripples in the F1 community as fans cannot stop talking about the expertise that they have shown even though they were quite obviously out of their elements taking part in water boat racing. The day garnered huge publicity for the sail-racing circuit, which is often called “F1 on the water”.
Almost always seen as a elitist and reclusive sport, SailGP is now trying to expand its fanbase and having Max and Sergio onboard to test the waters has definitely been a step in the right direction. The video on Red Bull’s page has already got over 16,000 views within the first two hours of its premiere on YouTube.

Max Verstappen talks about the differences he noticed between SailGP and Formula 1
It is a known fact that Formula 1 fans always crave some adrenaline-filled adventures to fill their days whenever they are not racing. As the next race is still a week away, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez loved the change in scenery as they took to the waters of St. Tropez for their SailGP shoot. But while they were at it, Max Verstappen noticed a huge difference that irked him in some ways.
According to Max, SailGP requires more of a group effort as their are multiple people running all over the boat, fixing things, to make sure it stays afloat. But F1 is more of a solitary task as it finally falls upon the racer alone to make sure the car reaches the finish line. And it appears that Max Verstappen loves the solitude in F1 as he said, “I would’ve thrown someone in the water if I’d had to deal with such a big group.”
All in all, the day ended with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez absolutely content with the way they helmed the F50 in the waters of the French Riviera. And they proved to be such naturals that the video has got fans wishing that maybe they will be back at it once again in a few months!
