It is customary for some teams in Formula 1 to honor their racers by naming a car after them. And this time, it’s two-time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso who got credited for all his contributions to Alpine during his tenure at the French time by seeing them name one of their special edition cars after him. The Spaniard took to his official Twitter account to thank the Enstone-based manufacturer, calling it a great honor to be sharing his name with their masterpiece creation–the A110 R Fernando Alonso edition.
Quite some time ago, Porsche started their collection for luxury vehicles called ‘British Legends Edition’, where each of the cars were named after the doyens of motorsports, such as Derek Bell, Nick Tandy and Richard Attwood. Alpine kept up with the tradition with their new line of limited edition cars. But this is not the first time that Fernando Alonso has had a car named after him.
Before this, Ferrari released a limited line-up of cars called the Ferrari 599 GTB Alonso edition, which were priced exorbitantly. If the fans wanted to get their hands on the 599 GTB Fernando edition which bore Fernando Alonso’s signature, they had to shell out about 250,000 pounds. But no such information about the pricing of the Alpine car has been divulged yet–but it is expected to be lower than the 599 GTB.
Alpine finds a unique way to thank Fernando Alonso as the Spaniard is set to join Aston Martin
Fernando Alonso entered Formula 1 for a second time following his exit in 2018 because of his contract with French team Alpine to drive for them in the 2021 season. While he spent two successful years with them, he decided to shift to Aston Martin for Sebastian Vettel‘s seat as the German announced his retirement from F1 at the end of the 2022 season. And before parting ways, Alpine decided to thank Alonso for pushing the team towards the top of the midfield by naming a car after him.
Fernando Alonso expressed his gratitude by tweeting his sweet message, which said, “What an honor to see the limited edition of the A110R Fernando Alonso already on the streets! What a wonderful car! Merci.” As it appears, there are 32 cars in the line-up, since Fernando Alonso has won 32 Grands Prix so far, and the car boasts his signature in the rear quarter window. And undoubtedly, all the Fernando Alonso fans are aiming at acquiring one of the Alpine masterpieces for themselves!
