Yuki Tsunoda claims Sebastian Vettel is ready for F1 come back as AlphaTauri boss
Yuki Tsunoda has made his pick for the leadership position at AlphaTauri after Franz Tost said he would retire within three years.
For the first three races of the 2023 season, AlphaTauri’s results have not been too impressive. While Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda had built up a total of 10 points by this time last year, the newly recruited pair of Tsunoda and Nyck deVries have only scrounged up 1 point by now. So, they are in the lowermost position of the F1 World Constructors’ Championship standings alongwith Williams.
Because of the faults that have become glaringly obvious in the AlphaTauri F1 team, their leader Franz Tost indicated some cracks in his squad as he said he can no longer have faith in his team engineers. Tost also expressed his wish to retire from his role as the Team Principal of AlphaTauri within the next three years and he would turn 70 by then. Thus, a question about the Faenza-based team’s future was directed at Yuki Tsunoda at his recent interview, and the Japanese youngster mentioned his pick for the lead position at Red Bull’s sister team.
While going over the options for the person who can take up the role of being the Team Principal at AlphaTauri, Tsunoda mentioned the recently-retired four-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel. The 35-year-old made his exit from the pinnacle of motorsports last year at the end of the Abu Dhabi GP, and Tsunoda said about him, “That would be really interesting to see how Sebastian would be as a team manager. He can be anything.”
Yuki Tsunoda has expressed confidence in his team despite poor start to 2023 season
When Sebastian Vettel entered Formula 1 as a Red Bull junior, he was initially recruited at AlphaTauri. From there, the German worked up the ranks, and he achieved the seat at Red Bull in 2009, replacing David Coulthard. Thus, Vettel is quite familiar with the inner workings of Red Bull and AlphaTauri, and hence, Yuki Tsunoda is confident that Sebastian Vettel can excel as the leader of the team.
In other news, Yuki Tsunoda has mentioned that he believes AlphaTauri is in the right direction towards improving for better results. He described the internal environment inside AlphaTauri as somewhat upset because of their poor results. Now, it remains to be seen if Yuki’s predictions turn out to be correct, and if he alongwith Nyck deVries manage to gain some good points in the upcoming Grands Prix of this season.
