The British GP has ended and it was a seriously breathtaking watchfest for all the fans. For a painstakingly long time, it seemed like the faces of a few drivers like Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso had been etched on the podiums because it was only then who were seen in the top 3 at the different Grands Prix. But the race in Silverstone gave a huge shock to the audience as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, who had been restricted to the back of the grid for a majority of the 2023 season, captured P2 and P3 during the Quali and Norris even got a second-place finish on Sunday.

While Lando Norris’ best-ever finish in Formula 1 came from his home Grand Prix, it was a bittersweet night for his team McLaren. Piastri, who had qualified to start from right behind Norris in P3, could not retain his position during the race and he had to yield to Lewis Hamilton. Even then, Zak Brown commended the seven-time World Champion for his classy driving skills.

At one point in time, when Lewis Hamilton had already passed Oscar Piastri and was making a go for the second position in his home race, he went wheel-to-wheel with Lando Norris. The young Briton held his stand valiantly against the veteran who had already won 13 podiums at Silverstone and in the end, he pulled through and did not yield to Lewis. Speaking of the incident, Zak Brown said, “The nice thing is you know Lewis is gonna fight you hard but he’s gonna fight you fair. At least you feel like you have a driver around you that’s gonna be sensible.”

It was going well for the majority of the British GP as Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were running in the second and third position behind Max Verstappen. But then, Kevin Magnussen’s Haas caught fire and the safety car had to be deployed. During this time, both Piastri and Hamilton pitted their cars for a tire change but the latter came in front of Oscar Piastri and he took over the third position in the grid.

Last night’s P3 victory took Lewis Hamilton’s count of podium wins at Silverstone to fourteen. The Briton dedicated his performance to the fans who gathered for his race, and he also said that results like these prove that Mercedes is on their way to bounce back in the current Red Bull era.
