Everton announce veteran Premier League manager as new coach after sacking Frank Lampard
Sean Dyche also did not have a very good winning record in the PL back when he was the manager
Everton announced Sean Dyche as the man to save them from relegation on Monday. The 19th-placed club parted ways with Frank Lampard after a dismal run of form last week. Dyche has been offered a 2.5-year contract that will expire in June 2025.
Sean Dyche was among some of the top names for the job with Sam Allardyce as “relegation saviours”. A proper example of a traditional ‘Hardman’, Dyche’s brand of football is much like his career. Ugly but effective. Dyche will bring a much-required pragmatism and experience to the club, something ardently required to battle relegations.
Everton chairman, Bill Kenwright said, “He quickly convinced me that he has exactly the right attributes to make himself a great Everton manager — and a man who could inspire our fanbase.”
The 6’3″ former defender was the chief architect behind the success of Burnley in the last decade. Joining the club in 2012, Dyche made Turf Moor a fortress. He shattered many records with the club, guiding them to a promotion to the Premier League. After dropping down to the Championship, Burnley sprang back up in 2016. He even led the team to a Europa League qualification, their first in half a decade.
A fan favourite in his previous club, Dyche surely knows the importance of the ’12th man’ in a relegation battle. Talking about the Everton-loyal, Dyche said in the club statement, “I know about Everton’s passionate fan base and how precious this club is to them. We’re ready to work and ready to give them what they want. That starts with sweat on the shirt, effort and getting back to some of the basic principles of what Everton Football Club has stood for a long time.”
Dyche-ball
The 52-year-old loves to play a low block with just one target man up top. He has made his living frustrating free-scoring teams and suffocating them in the jungle of men. This, in sharp contrast to Lampard’s “sophisticated” football, is necessary to survive the brutal relegation trapdoor.
Everton lost nine of their previous 12 games. The team is currently languishing at 19 in the table, 3 points away from survival. Their last win in the league was back in October, 9 matches ago. The Toffees have also conceded 23 goals in this period. With a brutal streak of games to come against Arsenal, Liverpool and Leeds United, the fans will hope Dyche can bring some much-needed grit to the team.

Dyche hands transfer request
Right after his signing, Dyche has already handed the board a request to sign Southampton frontman Che Adams. According to sources, the 26-year-old Scot can be a perfect strike partner for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Big, strong and with a good link-up play, Adams has 6 goal contributions for Southampton this season. According to people close to the matter, the club is preparing a €15 million bid for the striker.

Gordon Gone!
Anthony Gordon left Everton for Newcastle United earlier on Sunday. The move was rather forced by the player as he stopped training with the team to expedite the transfer.
The deal earned Everton €45 million but they lost one of their brightest attacking prospects when they would’ve surely needed it. Gordon is one of the fastest players in the league with a slew of tricks up his sleeve.
The 21-year-old said, “I didn’t mean to disrespect or offend anyone at Everton, and I’m hoping they know that and hopefully they can reinvest the money now and stay in the Premier League.” It is anybody’s guess that his words did not sit well with the supporters and the club.
The club, in the face of betrayal, posted a short notice on their website saying, “Anthony Gordon has joined Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee. The 21-year-old forward leaves Everton after having submitted a formal transfer request.”
