Portugal to produce evidence to FIFA to prove that the first goal against Uruguay was scored by Cristiano Ronaldo: Reports

Cristiano Ronaldo thought that he headed the ball past the goalkeeper.

In the last second-round group stage matchup Portugal faced Uruguay in what was expected to be the decider for Group H and it didn’t disappoint the football fans at all. The match was an absolute thriller to the neutrals but for both sides, fans were living off their feet as it was a nail-biting encounter just like the last time way back in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Uruguay started off the match really well working off two great saves from Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa. But Portugal players kept their patience and frustrated the Uruguay players by not allowing them to have the ball. The first half was quite dull in what has been the story for the entire FIFA World Cup so far.

As soon as the second half began, Portugal’s players tried to fasten up their gameplay and started applying for crosses in the opposition penalty box with the first goal coming from a Bruno Fernandes cross intended for Cristiano Ronaldo who tried his best to apply a header and put the ball in the back of the net but little he did he know that the ball didn’t touch his head turning out to be a goal for Bruno Fernandes.

What did Bruno Fernandes say about the first Portugal goal at the post-match conference?

Bruno celebrates with Ronaldo after the first goal.

Bruno was awarded the Man of the Match trophy at the end of the match for his wonderful brace and at the post-match press conference answered all the doubts about the first goal. He admitted that he thinks that it was Ronaldo’s goal and that the goal should have stood in his name.

He added, “I celebrated as if it had been Cristiano’s goal, it seemed to me that he had touched the ball. My aim was to cross the ball for him. We are happy with the victory regardless of who scored. The most important thing is that we achieved our aim which is to be in the next round.”
