‘I more or less put it together,’ Charles Leclerc reflects on strong qualifying session in Jeddah
The 2022 Saudi Arabia Qualification has come to an end with no major changes from that of the Bahrain Grand Prix. Ferrari as usual had a lot of good flying laps in Saturday’s qualifying session leading a 2-3 for the team with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Lewis Hamilton was out in Q1 with both the McLarens of Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo out in Q2. The top 10 contenders fighting for the pole position for Sunday’s race were Kevin Magnussen, Pierre Gasly, Valtteri Bottas, Fernando Alonso, George Russell, Esteban Ocon, Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc, and Sergio Perez.
There were just a few seconds left on the clock for the Q3 to end with Charles Leclerc driving past the checkered flag at a temporary pole alongside his teammate, Carlos Sainz at P2. While fans had a lot of hopes around Max Verstappen trying to take away the pole position from Leclerc, an unexpected guest swooped in at the last second and took away the pole position from Charles.
He did an incredible job today: Charles Leclerc on Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez was +0.025 seconds ahead of the 24-year-old Ferrari driver. Even though Charles Leclerc did not secure the pole position, he was quite happy with his pace and performance throughout the race and more or less expected the same.
The youngster showed true sportsman spirit and congratulated the Mexican driver for his incredible drive today and said, “I am very happy with the lap – I more or less put it together. Congratulations to Checo. He did an incredible job today”
The Sunday race in Saudi Arabia will officially begin at 10:30 pm IST with Sergio Perez starting at pole position along with the two Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc starting from the second and Carlos third position on the gird. Tomorrow’s event will bring in a lot of drama and overtakes on the fastest street circuit under the light.
