The LIV Golf series has rubbed people the wrong way over the past few days. While the uphill battle for the Saudi backed series continues, recent information about the revenues of the series have left people shocked. Although expected from the startup, the Series made almost zero revenue in its first season.
Further escalating the matters, LIV Golf released statements for why they made the said losses. In the statements, they criticised PGA Tour for being the reason. “The Tour has damaged LIV’s brand, driven up its costs by hundreds of millions of dollars, and driven down revenues to virtually zero,” said a LIV Golf lawyer.
That, along with the postponement of the anti-trust lawsuit against the PGA has affected LIV Golf negatively. “Delay will equally harm LIV because the Tour continues its anticompetitive conduct while the litigation is pending.” The antitrust has continued to cause problems for both the PGA Tour and the LIV Series. Scheduled for 23rd July 2023, the trial has now been pushed to January 2024.

The loss of the Series is a serious matter. Funded by the Saudi PIF and its governor, LIV Golf during its first season brought on some of the best golfers in the world including the likes of Cameron Smith, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau. The deals signed with the golfers have been as high as $400 million, which many people have found to be deceitful.
However, when the LIV Series blamed the PGA Tour, fans and golfers were not having it. Many of them came to the defence of the Tour, saying that the series had did this to themselves for their ‘unethical behaviour’.
American professional golfer, commentator and writer Brandel Chamblee also wrote some fiery words against LIV Golf. “Or maybe, it’s the fact that a dictatorial murderer is behind LIV and the golf world doesn’t want the game to be drug back into the dark ages of discrimination,” tweeted Chamblee.
