On Sunday, during the showdown between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, things got a bit heated. Will Flemming, a Red Sox broadcaster, launched a huge verbal attack on Jazz Chisholm Jr. and called him a “bush league player.” On Monday, the Yankees star hit back at him, calling him “unprofessional.”

In the series finale between the two rivals at Yankee Stadium, Chisholm Jr. was involved in a huge moment. With the game scoreless in the 5th inning, the infielder hit a fly ball to right field. While outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela grabbed the ball, it was later deemed a single instead of a catch.

This decision saw the Yankees put up 5 runs on the board and blow open the game. In the 7th inning, the Red Sox broadcasting crew had a meltdown after Chisholm Jr. stole third base after the visitors stopped trying to hold him down.

Will Flemming and Will Middlebrooks were left disappointed with this. The former then asked the latter whether he would like to see Jovani Moran, the Red Sox relief pitcher, drill Austin Wells with a pitch. Flemming then called him a “bush league player” and expressed that he does not play the game the right way.

He’s a bush league player.

Wells ended up hitting a 2-run home run, making it a 9-1 game. As Chisholm Jr. trotted towards home plate, Flemming then expressed that Moran should fight him. The Yankees eventually recorded a 16-1 win and took 3 out of the 4 games against their division rivals.

Following the game, Flemming found himself under huge backlash. Several fans slammed him for his choice of words and called him out on social media.

Chisholm Jr. responded to this on Monday. The 28-year-old claimed that he did not know who Flemming was until Monday morning, and he would not remember him after this incident.

That’s just showing how unprofessional he is. … I didn’t even know who that was until this morning and I’m still not going to remember who he is after today.

Earlier this season, Chisholm Jr. was involved with another broadcaster. Cleveland Guardians announcer Tom Hamilton threw shade at him for his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The Yankees star fired back and had the last laugh as they swept the AL Central side in a 3-game series.

In a post on X, the announcer first expressed that he was a fan at heart. While he did not mention the name of Chisholm Jr., he expressed that he did not mean to disrespect the Yankees players and organization.

My comments during yesterday’s broadcast crossed a line. I’m emotional and a fan at heart and that bled into the broadcast. I meant no disrespect to the Yankees players or organization. I could and should have used different words.

This is not the first time Flemming has used some big words during a broadcast. A month ago, he blasted Jarren Duran following his outburst during their game against the Athletics.

Speaking of the Red Sox, they bounced back from this heavy defeat with a 9-3 win over the Seattle Mariners. As for the Yankees, they lost 10-1 against the Los Angeles Angels.
