Lamar Jackson spoke the quiet part out loud when reporters asked him about Myles Garrett’s trade to the Los Angeles Rams. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback expressed his sentiments by using just one word.

“Yes!!!” Jackson said.

Jackson’s reaction makes complete sense. From day one, Garrett made life hell for every AFC North quarterback whom he lined up against. As both Baltimore and Cleveland are part of the same division, Jackson and Garrett faced each other at least twice every year.

Even though Jackson holds a 10-5 record against the Browns in his career, Garrett has sacked him a staggering 12 times in 13 meetings. Most notably, in November 2025, he sacked Jackson an incredible four times in one game.

Garrett will look to do the same in the NFC. However, Jackson has to worry about the individual whom the Browns received in the Garrett trade. The Browns received edge Jared Verse, along with first, second, and third-round draft picks.

But then we got the new [Jared Verse] from the [Los Angeles Rams]. Yeah, he[‘s] good, too, you know. So, man, shout out to him.

Jackson said

Verse is a two-time Pro Bowl and won the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year honor. In 34 games, Verse has logged 124 tackles, 12 sacks, 22 TFLs, and five forced fumbles.

Garrett played 134 games for the Browns. He registered 412 tackles, 149 TFLs, 18 PDs, and 125.5 sacks. Last year, Garrett set the single-season sack record with 23.

Lamar Jackson makes a massive claim about the Ravens’ coaching ahead of the new season

Jackson is coming off a season in which he posted his first losing campaign (6-7). He also registered the fewest total yards of his eight-year career (2,898). The Ravens missed the playoffs on the final day.

A few days later, the owners fired John Harbaugh, who coached the Ravens for nearly two decades. They appointed Harbaugh’s former colleague, Jesse Minter, as the new head coach and hired highly regarded Declan Doyle as the new offensive coordinator.

Despite being the same age as Jackson, Doyle has earned his respect over the last few months. Following the conclusion of the minicamp, Jackson gave Doyle top marks.

I feel like there’s going to be a lot of explosiveness this year. The way Declan calls plays and his creativity with his mind—how detailed he is—It’s mind-blowing.

Jackson is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He’s a two-time league MVP and nearly won a third trophy in 2024-25. However, he hasn’t been prolific in the final stages of the season.

With just one AFC Championship appearance in seven years, Jackson is constantly falling short in his quest to deliver the Ravens a third Lombardi Trophy. And he’s not getting any younger. He will soon be 30. Sure, there’s plenty of time left for him to win a ring, but he must perform better in the postseason to make his dreams a reality.

Patrick Mahomes’ new blockbuster extension puts Lamar Jackson in the spotlight

On Wednesday, June 10, the Kansas City Chiefs made changes to quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ ten-year, $450 million contract. The Chiefs reworked his contract, which is now valued at $504.75 million from 2026 through 2033. The deal includes $239.05 million in new money and three years of guaranteed money. The entire amount could become guaranteed if certain conditions are met.

This puts the Ravens in a bind. Jackson’s five-year, $260 million contract extension will end after the 2027 season. He’s already set the QB market in the past, and if the Ravens plan on keeping Jackson around beyond his contract, then they must draw up a new blueprint soon or risk losing him to a different team.
