Once it was revealed that LeBron James would live in New York and travel to Philadelphia to practice and play for the 76ers, news about his mode of transportation raised questions.

NBA players and other highly paid professional athletes are known to spend a bit of money on exotic and luxury automobiles the moment they earn their first major paycheck.

The King is notoriously stingy when it comes to spending on luxury. But he does have a fleet of custom vehicles back in Los Angeles, where his wife and daughter stay. Many thought he would bring a couple of them over to Philadelphia.

Instead, it turns out he uses a helicopter. What was more surprising was that the billionaire does not spend a dime on that air travel. Rather, it was Michael Rubin, founder of Fanatics, who also happens to be a Philadelphia native and an ex-minority owner.

Now, this supposedly did not sit well with some of the other NBA owners, and they requested investigative journalist Pablo Torre to look into it. When Carmelo Anthony came to know about this, he said:

You got to take the stand and tell us which owners. Say the owner… are wondering XYZ about LeBron’s transportation… Like, I respect the journalism, but if we’re going to keep it a buck, keep it a buck.

Carmelo Anthony said

This was the Hall of Famer demanding on his podcast that Torre reveal which owners requested this investigation, as it is clear that they were unhappy with LeBron James joining the 76ers. Anthony feels that Torre working at the owners’ behest raises questions about the integrity of this investigation.

Carmelo Anthony details how Pablo Torre’s investigation into LeBron James makes no sense

Before calling out Pablo Torre and labeling the owners as ‘snitches,’ Carmelo Anthony explained how LeBron James using a Fanatics helicopter has nothing to do with cap circumvention or any deal to lure him to the Philadelphia 76ers.

He’s not the owner no more… I own the biggest sports memorabilia company in the world. I have a deal, a partnership with LeBron James. My partner can use the company plane to get back and forth from work.

His 7 PM in Brooklyn co-host highlighted that it is similar to how a car company pays an athlete to use their car to drive to work.

When guest Monica McNutt interjected that the analogy does not help the James’ $4 million deal with the 76ers, Anthony replied that it may have been all that his close friend could sign.

He further added that when someone is a billionaire, the last thing they are worried about is hundreds of thousands of dollars going into helicopter rides. Anthony believes that LeBron James could have done it wherever he signed, especially if he wanted to stay two hours away from the arena.

Pablo Torre reveals the NBA is looking into how Fanatics announced LeBron James signing with 76ers

While talking about this topic, Carmelo Anthony reiterated that the only reason this investigation has come about is that Michael Rubin, who was once belittled for not being a rich enough owner, now owns the rights to all NBA teams through Fanatics.

I have never seen a big announcement like this broken by a trading card company, but here it was… League sources have been wondering if former Sixers minority owner Michael Rubin flipped LeBron… convinced him to sign with the Sixers at Fanatics Fest.

The journalist added that he was not placing this situation on the same lines as his salary cap circumvention probe into Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers.

However, he did find the several coincidences involving LeBron James signing with the Philadelphia 76ers ‘funny.’ That could mean that he will aid in the investigation if the league wants it.
