Kevin Harvick has addressed Denny Hamlin’s intentional wreck against Ross Chastain at the Phoenix Raceway. Hamlin admitted he did it intentionally on his “Actions Detrimental” podcast. As a result of this, NASCAR gave him a penalty. He was fined $50,000 and penalized 25 points. Ever since the incident, Hamlin has been the talk of the town. Several drivers gave their opinions on this subject.

While some drivers and fans supported Hamlin, others were not fond of his behavior. Kevin Harvick sided with the latter. Harvick criticized Hamlin for his actions against his competitor. The Cup and Xfinity Series champion feels there is no place for unruly behavior in NASCAR. Although Harvick is familiar with the rivalry between Hamlin and Chastain, he does not encourage intentional wrecking.

Harvick gave his opinion in an episode of NASCAR Race Hub, “I think this situation, in particular, has just gone way overboard. And right now, it’s affecting the teams. At Pocono, I got affected by Denny wiping out Ross Chastain and ran into Ross. And so, really, it’s affecting every competitor on the race track.” Harvick was affected by the Hamlin-Chastain rivalry at Pocono. The Trackhouse Racing driver spun and made contact with Harvick.

The Daytona 500 winner added, “I think it’s a fine line between letting everybody have their personalities and doing what they need to do. But in this current situation, we still have the possibility of drivers getting hurt and I don’t like wrecking under caution. I don’t like the fact that we’re intentionally wrecking drivers.”

Kevin Harvick feels that NASCAR drivers can compete with each other just by racing. He does not think it is good for the sport. The Stewart-Haas Racing driver agrees with NASCAR regarding Hamlin’s penalty. He feels steps should be taken to stop these things from happening again. Harvick does not want to get involved in a feud between other drivers.

Kevin Harvick, the record holder for nine Cup Series wins at the Phoenix Raceway, is the first in the Cup Series for the 2023 season. Though he has not won any race yet, he has been consistent with two top-five and three top-ten finishes in four races. Harvick is having a pretty good season so far. The 47-year-old is on top of his game.
