“Should probably start the All-Star Game” NBA Analyst deems Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as one of the best scorer

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is having a career season this year and is making a strong serious case for the tag of a superstar in the league. Shai has been averaging 31.1 points in the 2022-23 NBA regular season so far in 20 games. He is third in total points scored behind Luka Doncic and Stephen Curry.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been an all-star caliber player in the league for at least the past two seasons, unfortunately, he has never been voted for an all-star. Given the number of points he is scoring and the impact he is having on the court there is little or no doubt about his all-star selection. Not only has the 24-year old elevated himself at the offensive end but he has been amongst the best perimeter defenders in the league.

Brian Windhorst was joined by ESPN’s Kirk Goldsberry on ‘The Hoop Collective’ podcast to discuss the Los Angeles Lakers and the rise of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander this season. Speaking of Shai’s rise this season, Kirk told Brian Windhorst that the OKC star has become one of the best scorers in the league and should start the All-Star game this year. “Shai Gilgeous-Alexander……one of the best scorers in the league right now. He’s never made the All-Star Game, and we can go through some numbers, but this dude is an All-Star at least. He should probably be starting the game,” Kirk said

Supporting his argument and the case for Shai being an all-star Kirk gave some historical stats to prove his point. He said, “We dug up on the research that it’s like out of sixty-two players that have averaged, at least, 30 points a game prior to the all-star game in the NBA history, 60 made the All-Star Game 54 of those started it.” He added, “So SGA, simply put, should probably start the All-Star Game.”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has taken a massive leap this year with the Thunder and his overall game to another stratosphere. He has been averaging 31.1 points this season and shooting 50.6% from the field. His usage rate and contribution at the offensive end have substantially increased as he is dropping 6 dimes a game for the OKC. He is posting career-high both in assists and points.

If that is not enough to make his case for stardom, Shai has posted 30 or more points in 15 of the 20 games he has played this season, which is the highest in the league. Leading Luka Doncic with 13 and Stephen Curry with 12. As compared to this season, the Canada-born star has a total of 20 games with 30 or more points than last season with a total of 56 games in his resume.
