“That’s why we’ll win 3 out of the next 4 championships” Draymond Green urges how Warriors are going to build upon their legacy because of Stephen Curry’s heroics
Stephen Curry is a force nobody saw coming their way. During his initial years on the floor the two-time MVP battled with several injuries pertaining to his ankle. He also had to go through operations in order to get it fixed. Having been operated that early in his career, the league began to quit on him. Soon he became a weapon on offense and while shooting the three-pointers.
His antics would later win them their first ever championship in 2015 as he averaged 30.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.7 assists per game on 50.4% shooting. He became the league’s first ever unanimous MVP as well. Fast forward a few years, he would win two more titles with Kevin Durant and once again the league began to question his ability to lead a team.
Draymond Green opens up about Stephen Curry’s dominance
Draymond Green has been playing with Stephen Curry his entire career. Green is one of the key reasons why the Chef does what he does on the court. Together they are a very tight knit group. The Golden State Warriors won their fourth title in eight years and here is what Green had to say about his teammate. “Early on when we first started doing it, it was like man… this dude is so good he don’t even really understand how good he is yet.”
“You start to watch, you start to see the confidence grow. And then you see the shimmies. And then you see the evolution. If had to put a year on it like 2017, 2018, he really starts to understand, ‘Wow, I am that good. I am that guy.’ And in 2020, it’s like, ‘Okay, now I’m unstoppable.’” Curry finished top five in the MVP ranking that year averaging a career high 32 points with 5.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists shooting 48.2% from the field.
Draymond Green firmly believes Stephen Curry will lead them to winning three more titles
After winning their fourth title this past season, Stephen Curry had proven a lot of his doubters wrong. Green along with Klay Thompson also had spoken about people underestimating him as a leader. Dray recently sat on the Old Man and the Three podcast with JJ Reddick and said, “Oh man, nobody can stop this dude now. I think that really changed the complexity of our organization and I’m pretty certain that’s why we’ll win three of the next four championships.”
“I think about the drive against Al Horford… Al Horford’s riding his hip and he just lays the ball up… he couldn’t bump him off his path and that’s when Steph turner a corner and he became unstoppable. And now we’re able to continue to win championships because he’s unstoppable.” Curry averaged 31.2 points per game in the finals and also won the finals MVP award for the first time.
