Trash-talking is a part of the game that every player has engaged in at least once. A psychological strategy to discourage your opponent and make them conscious about their game but when trash talk meets an aggressive style of play, things get intense. Both Dillon Brooks and Russell Westbrook are known for their aggressive passion for gameplay. Their face-off was bound to bring some action.

In recent times, Brooks hasn’t been popular for his likable attitude on the court. In fact, there have been several instances where he’s been successful to get under the skin of his opponents. For the game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Los Angeles Clippers, it was Russell Westbrook. With over a minute and a half left to go in the second quarter, the clippers guard was found mouthing some words to the grizzlies forward. The clippers leading by six points at the time were on the free-throw line when Westbrook and Brooks went at it against each other and the former was heard calling the latter “Trash!”

The visiting Clippers came out on top in what turned out to be a high-scoring game. The scorecard standing 141-132 at the end of regulation fetched them their 41st win of the season. The hosts stand with 48 wins at number two in the western conference whereas their guests stand at number five. Between Brooks and Westbrook, the former MVP walked out with whopping 36 points but the Grizzlies forward wasn’t very far behind with 30 to his name.

This isn’t the first time Dillon Brooks has been seen in a verbal tussle with a fellow NBA player. Throughout the past few seasons, there have been instances of Brooks engaging in some form of a brawl with his opponents. Earlier this month, The NBA even suspended Brooks for one game without pay for picking up his 18th technical foul.

Brooks was ejected during the Grizzlies’ playoff run last season during a Conference Semi-Final game. Accusations of breaking the code from across the NBA came after a flagrant foul on Gary Payton II which caused him a nasty injury. What followed were periods of tension against other players of the Golden State Warriors like Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Brooks was also ejected from a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers after getting into a physical brawl with guard Donovan Mitchell earlier this year. It can be said that Dillon Brooks has the reputation of being a passionate player who loves to win. Win at any and every cost. What remains unclear is whether his passion is misunderstood for aggressive play and a style of competition.
