“We’re not worried about him” – Kevin Durant and Harden reveal their true feelings on Kyrie Irving’s return

Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving is all-set to make his much-awaited season debut after clearing the NBA’s health and safety protocols. This comes late, but for what it’s worth, it might not have happened at all. The Brooklyn Nets management decided to rule Kyrie out for all the games even though he would have been eligible for the away games.

However, with multiple Nets players entering NBA’s covid-protocols, including James Harden, Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge at the same time, calling in Kyrie was a desperate measure. This has got the Brooklyn Nets stars excited about Kyrie Irving’s addition to the team.

Kevin Durant in a post-game interview sounded very confident about Kyrie despite him being available only for the away games. The reason for the confidence as quoted by Durant himself is that ‘Kyrie can adapt and do anything out there, so we’re not worried about him’

Durant also added – “You know, he can score 60, 70 percent of his shots if you don’t guard him. He’s a high IQ player. It’s just a matter of him, just getting his legs under him and his wind upon him, and for us, we want to run plays for him… we play team basketball”.

James Harden was asked how Kyrie looked in practice after long being away, to which Harden replied – “Like Kyrie. Elite”. Harden added – “same Kyrie, we just happy to have him back. Now we gotta get him on the court and get this thing going”.

The Brooklyn Nets have 24 away games remaining for the season. Of these 24 games, one game will be at the Warriors’ Chase Canter which required all players to be vaccinated. This leaves Kyrie Irving with 23 games at best to be a part of for the Nets. Kyrie will also get an additional game – the postponed road game against the Portland Trail Blazers which was supposed to take place when Kyrie and other Nets were in protocols.

Kyrie averaged 26.9 points per game last season meeting the coveted 50/40/90 offensive standard. He also made it to the All-NBA 3rd team. Before the start of the season, Kyrie announced he won’t be taking the vaccine as a way to take issue with the ‘Americans losing jobs to a mandate’ and his belief that ‘nobody should be forced to do anything with their bodies’.
