Nelly Korda is back at the top of the golf world. On Sunday, the American international reclaimed the World No.1 spot following her dominating victory at the Chevron Championship.

The 27-year-old golfer had been in stunning form this season. In her first start, she won the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions after having the 54-hole lead. The final round of this event was canceled due to dangerous weather conditions at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club.

In her next 3 starts, she finished as the runner-up. After back-to-back second-place finishes at the Fortinet Founders Cup and Ford Championship in March, she finished T2 at the Aramco Championship earlier this month.

At the Memorial Park Golf Course this past week, Korda started strong and never looked back. She fired scores of 65 in the first and second rounds to take a commanding lead.

Despite a score of 70 in the third round, the Olympic gold medalist was in full control. In the final round, she once again carded a round of 70.

She thus finished with an 18-under par score for the event, 5 shots ahead of runners-up Ruoning Yin and Patty Tavatanakit. This was also the largest margin of victory in this event. As a result of all of these, Korda went wire-to-wire to claim her third major championship, having won this event in 2024 as well.

This victory comes on the back of two completely different seasons for her. In 2024, she dominated the scene by winning in 5 successive starts and claiming 7 wins.

In 2025, she went winless. The golfer also lost her World No.1 ranking as he was unable to claim a single victory. With the strong showings this year and this victory, Korda reclaimed the top spot in the world rankings.

To put things into perspective, Korda has only been beaten by two golfers this year. Hyo Joo Kim won both the Fortinet Founder Cup and the Ford Championship, while Lauren Coughlin won the Aramco Championship. As for this major event, Kim finished 6th while Coughlin had to settle for a T59 finish.

After her impressive run in 2024, she stumbled a bit in 2025. Her winless run last year raised several questions regarding her form. She silenced a few of her doubters with this dominating win at the Chevron Championship.

Honestly, if it’s taught me anything, it’s to just focus on myself, not listen to the outside noise. Every year will be so different. I love the game of golf and I feel like that really helps. I love competing.

Nelly Korda told the reporters

The golfer also kept the tradition alive at this event. After the win, she jumped into the famous pool beside the 18th hole alongside her family.

The Chevron Championship is one of the 5 majors events of the LPGA Tour. Like most major events, the purse prize for this year’s event was increased.

The 2026 edition had a $9 million purse, an increase from the $7.9 million last year. As the winner, Korda earned the biggest cheque of $1.35 million.

Korda is also the first American since Meg Mallon in 2000 to win 3 majors. It will be interesting to see how she performs in the upcoming events with this huge momentum by her side.
