The San Francisco 49ers, led by their star quarterback, Brock Purdy are currently preparing for their Super Bowl game against the Patrick Mahomes-led Kansas City Chiefs. Ahead of the game, Purdy gets some support from the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow amidst heavy criticism about the 49ers’ signal caller.
During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated reporter Robin Lundberg, the Bengals leader Joe Burrow, who is only the second QB to defeat Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs, was asked about his opinions on Brock Purdy being labeled a game manager. Burrow said a quarterback should be a game manager.
Well, first of all, you better be a game manager as a quarterback, otherwise it’s going to go haywire immediately and you’re not going to be able to operate the offense. That’s a prerequisite to playing the quarterback position is you have to be the game manager. You have to know situations.Joe Burrow said
The game manager label was placed on the Niners QB Brock Purdy by the former NFL MVP quarterback Cam Newton. The former Carolina Panthers leader referred to many players including Purdy, Jared Goff, and Dak Prescott as simply game managers as opposed to game changers. Newton believes Purdy is only striving because of the weapons surrounding him and went as far as to say he is the 10th-best player on his team.
Obviously, Newton’s comments led to him receiving massive backlash on social media and even many former players attacked him. Later, due to the backlash, Newton admitted that he loves the 49ers QB. It is one of the most discussed topics among fans and experts. And now, Burrow has shared his two cents on the topic.
Joe Burrow highly praises the 49ers QB Brock Purdy
During a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, the Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow not only justified the game manager tag on some quarterbacks, but he also highly praised Brock Purdy’s playing ability.
Brock has made tons of plays with his legs outside the structure of the offense. All you gotta do is go watch the tape, and you see Brock is playing at a high level.Joe Burrow said
The Niners’ Pro Bowl quarterback Brock Purdy has been impressive during his 2023 campaign, but he still receives a lot of unwarranted criticism just because he was a late-round pick.
He now has a chance to turn around the narrative. He can prove his doubters wrong by defeating the league’s poster boy Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the much-anticipated Super Bowl game this Sunday.
