Brock Purdy, the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has had a remarkable rise to NFC glory. Since becoming the starting quarterback for the 49ers in week 13 due to an injury to Jimmy Garoppolo, Purdy has proved to be one of the best in the league this season, leading the team to an NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

While Purdy’s meteoric rise will be the story for ages, one cannot ignore the humiliation the rookie must have endured till he found the deserved glory. The “Mr. Irrelevant” tag, while a funny acronym for the last pick of the NFL draft, can be heart-piercing for the tag-bearer. One such disheartening incident that could have affected the young Purdy down the line has recently come to light.

Prior to the NFL draft, Brock Purdy was viewed by many teams as a less-than-desirable prospect, with criticisms of his height, athleticism, and arm strength being reported in scouting reports obtained by The Athletic.

These critiques were not new to Purdy, as he had heard similar criticisms in the past, including from the University of Alabama coach Nick Saban, who told him in 2018, “You’re below average in height–Your arm strength is whatever–Your accuracy is average, ” as per Athletic’s report. One cannot help but deny that these scouting reports might have given more voice to Purdy for being picked as the last prospect in the 2022 draft.

Despite these doubts, Purdy’s experience as a starting quarterback for 48 games at Iowa State was seen as his greatest strength. He was considered a solid game manager, able to consistently make routine plays, and had a good ability to work through progressions.

Purdy’s rise to stardom can be attributed to a number of factors. Firstly, his work ethic and determination cannot be overstated. Purdy has always been driven to improve, and he put in countless hours of training and film study to become one of the best quarterbacks in the league this season. Additionally, Purdy has a great understanding of the game, and he is able to read defenses and make quick decisions on the field.

Another key factor in Purdy’s success has been the support of his teammates and coaching staff. The 49ers have a strong offensive line that has protected Purdy well, and the team’s wide receivers have been able to make big plays down the field. Kyle Shanahan-led coaching staff has also done a great job of putting Purdy in positions to succeed, and they have given him the freedom to make plays on the field.

He has shown that with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and the support of a team, anyone can achieve their goals. Purdy is a true inspiration to aspiring football players everywhere, and his journey in the NFL is one that will be remembered for years to come.

The Arizona-born product has a history of overcoming doubters and skeptics, and he now finds himself one game away from making history as the first rookie quarterback to start in a Super Bowl. He will face a challenging test against the Eagles on Sunday as he continues to defy expectations.
