The issue regarding the ban on the involvement of transgender athletes in sporting activities related to women has been pretty obvious. Ever since the Athletics organization announced this decision, numerous heated conversations have ignited over social media platforms. Two athletes who have since continued to dominate the headlines are former NCAA swimmers Riley Gaines and Lia Thomas.

Thomas, the first-ever transgender NCAA champion has been slammed from time to time regarding her participation. Meanwhile, Gaines has emerged as a central figure to ensure this ban stays in its place. On Monday, another former teammate of Thomas, Paula Scanlan revealed the experience she had while being teammates with the trans swimmer.

Scanlan was a part of the University of Pennsylvania team along with Thomas and Gaines. While speaking to Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire, Scanlan mentioned it was the right time to come out publicly to join the fight alongside Gaines. The reason she gave for this was that “this is not the truth” according to her. She had previously made an appearance in the documentary “What Is A Woman?” but asked for anonymity.

The news of this development was announced by Walsh himself a few days back. In a tweet he informed about being contacted by a former teammate of Thomas, and that she was ready to share the details of her story publicly.

The controversy regarding the involvement of Lia Thomas and other trans athletes in women’s events has flared up in recent times. Riley Gaines who has refused to back down from the fight has carried on to slam others for siding with Thomas. The topic of “fairness” has become the key issue in this debate. This is the reason why Paula Scanlan decided to speak up.

In the conversation with Matt Walsh, Scanlan revealed the unpleasant experience she suffered. The swimmer informed that the school despite knowing it would not be fair for her (Thomas) to compete in the event was allowed. She later revealed that several girls on the team were truly uncomfortable with sharing a locker room with Thomas. Some of them then decided to use the stalls in the room to get changed.

A few weeks ago, Gaines, herself shared the traumatic experience she had while sharing the room with her. The former swimmer even filed a legal case against the trans athlete for the mental damage they had suffered. Scanlan said that the institutions “failed” them for not stepping up sooner to take a stand for them.

Scanlan further addressed the situation on the campus following this. She explained how many of them felt that it was wrong but were afraid to raise their voice against the University. Thomas on the other hand has declared that she did not break any rules and has waived away the talks of having an “unfair advantage” for being a biological male.
