Pele was a professional football player from Brazil who played for the Brazilian side Santos. He was born on 23 October 1940 in Três Corações, Minas Gerais, Brazil to Dondinho and Celeste Arantes. He had two siblings, with one of his brothers, Zoca, also playing for Santos. He rose to prominence at a young age at Santos when he was just 15 before earning worldwide attention while playing for Brazil at the international level.
When did Pele make his senior team debut?
Pele made his senior team debut on 7 September 1956 at the age of just 15 against Corinthians de Santo André, scoring a goal on debut in a 7-1 victory for his team. He spent 18 years at the club netting the ball on 618 occasions. Pelé’s first international match resulted in a 2–1 defeat for Brazil against Argentina on 7 July 1957. However, in that match, he scored his first goal for Brazil at the age of 16 years and nine months, which still remains the record for the youngest goalscorer for Brazil.
