Former World No 1 Novak Djokovic unlocked a new feat to become the oldest player to win the 2022 ATP Finals as he defeated Casper Ruud in the finals in straight sets. He is considered to be one of the greatest players in the sport who has inspired people with his perseverance, agility, and hard work. He is the fifth player in the Open Era to win 90 or more titles and the second active player after Rafael Nadal.

He faced a major setback at the beginning of 2022 due to his unvaccinated status which forced him to skip two Grand Slam tournaments. He made a late start to the year and failed miserably to defend his title in the Australian Open as well as in the French Open. But despite the unfortunate circumstances, he made a strong comeback after the US Open and won 17 out of his last 18 matches.

After his win at the ATP Finals, a video surfaced on the internet that went viral in no time. In the video, a 7-year-old Novak Djokovic is speaking of his future dreams and his love for the sport as he claims it to be his duty to play tennis. The young kid revealed his favorite part of the sport which he uses against his opponent and admitted the fact that he plays tennis at night since he goes to attend his school in the mornings. He even admitted that he wishes to become the World No 1 in the future which he has achieved in the due course of time.

He said in the video that “In tennis, I like the forehand, backhand, and the volleys. That’s how I beat my opponents. I play at night because in the morning I go to school, afternoon I practice. Finish my homework after practice and I play at night. Tennis for me is a duty. The goal for me is to be Number 1.

The Serb had doubt over his chances of participation in the Year-end Championship. But his Wimbledon win came as the saving grace and his 15th qualification were based on that special rule of merit. He did not let down his fans as he ended the year on a winning note despite the unfortunate incident in Australia which he hadn’t ever thought of in his wildest dreams.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion has been given the green signal to participate in Australia in 2023 with his three-year visa ban revoked. He has stated that he wishes to carry forward his dominant form of the year into the next year as he eyes his 10th title at the Australian Open. He admitted that he has a lot of motivational factors and does not lack any motivation for the moment.

Djokovic became the oldest player to win the ATP Finals at 35 years of age surpassing Roger Federer‘s previous record which was at 30 years of age. He has reached four consecutive finals after the US Open where he managed to win three titles out of them, the loss being at the Paris Masters.
