Canadian World No.31 Bianca Andreescu failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Miami Masters as she had to withdraw during the pre-quarterfinals match. She was trailing by a set 6-7 (0-7) but was a break up in the second set: (2-0) when the freak injury happened that resulted in her exit. As a result, Russian 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova moved to the last-8 to face 15th seed Petra Kvitova.

The Canadian tweeted about the injury, “Woke up with a brace on my foot .anyone know what happened? On a serious note tho… that was the worst pain I’ve ever felt… praying for nothing serious. Still waiting on official results. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and kind words, doesn’t go unnoticed.”

The Canadian always had the hard luck of meeting top-ranked players in the initial rounds. She lost to the current Indian Wells champion Elena Rybakina in the first round of the Dubai Open. In the Indian Wells Masters, her fate was to end up in front of the Polish World No.1 Iga Swiatek in the third round. She had to beat former US Open champion Emma Raducanu and Greek seventh seed Maria Sakkari in the first two rounds. But this time, a freak injury stopped her.

The 22-year-old Bianca Andreescu is struggling with injuries for a long time. She participated in very few tournaments in the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons because of multiple injuries. Hence, it was very important for her to play as many matches and prepare well for the upcoming Grand Slams. She was visibly disappointed with what transpired during the match against Ekaterina Alexandrova.

The former US Open champion was never able to play as per the expectations since her maiden triumph as a 19-year-old in the US Open 2019. Apart from that, she was not even able to go past round two in any of the other Grand Slams.

The mental agonies of playing under pressure had been huge for the best Canadian Women’s tennis player ever. After getting a career-high ranking of 4 in 2019, The Canadian failed to keep up the spirits. 2019 had been super special for her since she became the first Canadian Woman to win the Canadian Open along with the US Open title. In both finals, she had to beat the mighty Serena Williams.

The tennis world is looking forward to seeing how the Canadian 22-year-old will bounce back from the mental agonies and physical struggles.
